BU (sticker) v. Cardozo (full) v. Brooklyn (full) v. Retake

Post by emjay » Sat Mar 12, 2011 3:00 am

167/3.59, I wanted T14, but now that I got in to BU, I'm feeling satisfied and definitely happier with my options.

Question is, do I go for one of the full rides or settle for some financial aid and debt at BU? Or do I retake and possibly risk scoring same or lower (this would be my third retake, second was a 166) and wait for 2012 cycle?

also, going for NYC biglaw,

thanks

Go to BU. Just make sure that you do well.

If you want New York, you should consider going to Fordham or another NYC school. BU for Boston.

I guess BU would have to be the choice given the options you listed, and the goal of biglaw in NYC. Seems like the top 1/3 at BU are at least competitive for such positions. At Cardozo or Brooklyn, my guess would be something closer to about 10% to 15% of students are competitive for those positions. BU places quite well in NYC, but does it outweigh being in NYC itself? Thats the hardest part to decide on. If you had Fordham in the mix, that would definitely be the right choice. But since you don't, I'd vote BU.

If you do poorly at BU you could have the nightmare scenario of massive debt and no job. Dozo all the way, especially since you want NYC.

BU is not worth $150k+ more than Cardozo, particularly if your goal is to be in NYC. At least with Cardozo on a full ride (what are the stips?) your life won't be ruined if your plans don't turn out the way you currently envision them.

OP, if there are no stipulations on the Cardozo full ride, Cardozo is the appropriate choice. If there are stipulations, try to get them removed.

Do you want to graduate with debt and be forced into servitude based on six figures of debt to a school that only gives you a 25-30% shot at paying the debt off?

I didn't think so. Take the $.
