Should I take the IU-B offer?

I was offered a full ride at IU-B and from the sound of it, I an use the $$ to get the joint JD/MBA. This basically means I will come out with a JD/MBA + my UG degrees with 0 debt. I would love to go into commercial real estate and I feel like this offer would be perfect for that career path. I know IU-B's law school is growing but their B-School has a great reputation.

Should I pass up on better schools ie- Emory with $$ or should I just choose the better LS and let the IU-B offer go?

For commercial real estate, the Indiana-Bloomington offer seems ideal.

Are you okay working in Indiana, or maybe Kentucky/Cincinnati?

Not sure that it matters where OP is comfortable living & working if seeking a career in commercial real estate.

I got just about the same offer from IUB. It's very tempting. However when you look at the offices that come do OCI there, it's really unimpressive. Less than 60? And at that, extremely regional. They know what they're doing by throwing out that money lol

Depends upon whether OP wants to be with a law firm which represents commercial real estate developers or wants to go into the sales or investment side of commercial real estate.

Kelley is a world class B school. Maurer is a good law school. Take the free JD/MBA, graduate with $0 debt, and enjoy life.

Take full ride unless you get T14.

I would want to go into the investment side of things. I figured the JD would be an additional benefit. Are the B school prospects "regional" as well? I thought the B school was very well known.

Indiana's business school is world-class. You should do very well in the real world with these degrees.

Indiana is a Tier 1 MBA program and it would definitely allow for opportunities outside the Midwest.

I wouldn't say it is world-class though, there is a large gap between Whatron/Harvard/Standford/Kellogg and the other tier 1 MBA programs.

I'm not trying to be a debby downer, but have any of the above posters actually worked for a major company? And if so do you realize the scope of and how MBA hiring goes?

IU may have a good MBA but it is by no means "world renown". And the reason I am saying this is to state the fact that there is no major gap between these two B-Schools. I believe they are both ranked within a couple of spots within each other. Emory tends to feed into the NY and Atl markets however.

I'm not sure how much $$$ Emory is giving you in comparison but I would consider what your major intent of schooling is. Seems like you are more inclined to lean to the MBA career path wise. And as far as investment and real estate goes, GA(Atl specifically) and NY obviously have a leg up in the healthiness of that particular market versus mid-major cities in the midwest.

Personally, I'd lean towards Emory. But the exact cost comparison of Emory to IUB would be helpful in giving complete sound advice.

IUB- Free and 3 year program

Emory - $115K tuition + 4 year program

Oh yeah? That's all we have to do for regions not to matter? So why don't more people do it?

Also, that wasn't the impression that I got from the career office at IUB when discussing JD-MBAs.

This alone ends the discussion. Enjoy IUB.

I'd choose IUB too. Unless you really needed Atlanta for some reason.

Indiana's Kelley MBA will not in any way limit you to working in a few isolated Midwest location as claimed by another poster. You'll do well with the joint degree. Recruiting in commercial real estate can be quite different depending upon whether one is seeking a sales versus investment position.

For commercial real estate, law school isn't really necessary.

With that said, you can't beat free!

If you want to go into the investment side of things just go to B-school. Investment folks don't give a shit about a JD.
