this decision is killing me! Every discussion I could find on this topic dealt with individuals with ties to CA or a strong interest in working on the West Coast. I want to work in Manhattan, so I'm really just not sure which school is a better bet. Thanks in advance for your input.

Vault ranks Stanford #1 and all they care about are firms. Not academics and policy and stuff.
But even if they didn't, where would you rather spend Christmas?

Go to the school that you'll enjoy more. Honestly, Stanford places very well into the NYC market, so you should be fine going to either. Your performance in law school will be a bigger determinant on which firms hire you up, so you want to pick the school that suits you better.

First one looks more Christmas-y.

As far as Christmas-y goes, both have a Christmas tree. From there, I'm OK with throwing a few palm trees around it.
And so even if you'd prefer a more "Christmas-y" Christmas, how about November, January and February? Personally, I'd rather be at the beach.

Good point.

You gotta visit! They have totally different vibes/cultures, just pick the one you like best and enjoy it!

QFT. SLS and HLS are very different schools, with very different student bodies. Go see which you prefer.
Finding a job really shouldn't be a concern coming from either school.

Stanford just because I think job prospects are pretty equal coming from H or S and spending 3 years in S> 3 years at H.

At SLS, a lot of the class will definitely have a West Coast focus, which combined with the super-small class size (as compared to HLS) would make you much more of a rarity (and perhaps more desirable) than the average HLS student.
In the end though, it seems like it comes down to where you would prefer attending/spending 3 years.
Congrats on being in the position to make such an awesome choice!

Thanks for all of the feedback! Looks like I will have to wait to visit both schools to get a sense of the "vibes."

Similar situation here. I'm looking to return the East Coast after law school but Stanford just seems like such a cool place. Admit weekend will be the deciding moment. Are you going to the SLS one in April?

Yes! I will be at Stanford's in April and Harvard's the following weekend.

I am an enormous proponet of all things New England and Cambridge and Boston and I loathe California and would never want to live there, but I have to tell you to take Stanford. There aren't many Stanford grads out here, due to self-selection. There are tons of Harvard kids. With the vast portability of the degree and your ability to be a limited commodity, take S.

I visited both. Personally I much prefer the history, prestige, city feel of Harvard to the country-club vibe of Stanford. People really make too much of the cold. You WILL get used to it. I know Stanford is Stanford but Harvard is fucking Harvard.

OP, I'm sure you already realize this, but try to spend as much time with students as both students as you can. At least in my visits there was a different vibe from each of the groups of students I met...

Why are you so right so often? Seems wrong.
Also loathing California is dumb. Stop it.
