From Los Angeles and would prefer to head back after law school, want to get into academia / clerking. Interested in Death Penalty litigation (Cornell has a clinic). Received offer of $75k from Chicago, $135k from Cornell. Which should I pick?
Thanks for the help!

Depends upon whether or not you are "for" or "against" the death penalty. If "against", then Cornell's clinic & generous scholarship should be attractive if you are comfortable living in Ithaca for three years. If "for", then you should be looking for a strong prosecutorial clinic & Chicago looks like a great option due to your interest in academia & clerking.

Thanks for the input everyone. I am "against" the death penalty, which makes Cornell appealing, as does the money. Its a tough call.

Did you get into HYS? Because, all of those have great LRAP programs and are far and away the leaders in academia and clerkship.

Yes, I know. I was only trying to be humorous. Only very conservative politicians & zealous prosecutors are in favor of the death penalty.
You need to visit both law schools. No wrong choice, in my opinion.

Based on the schools in your post here, i'd easily take the $75k offer from Chicago.

64% of Americans support the death penalty as an option for murder as of October 2010. I almost think that if OP wants to get involved and make a positive impact on the "anti" side of the ledger, immersing themselves in a more conservative climate will only strengthen their counterarguments by exposing them more to different perspectives. That may sound like a crap reason, but if OP is motivated primarily by a single issue, and Chicago is already probably the consensus stronger choice, that could be the icing on the cake.

Yeah that would be tough, what with Chicago's "kill a bum" orientation game.
