Top Law Schools

I'm trying to decide between UF and FSU, both at sticker price. I want to practice in the state, probably in a small or mid-sized town. I am from the panhandle(FWB/Destin) and could likely end up back in that area. I have a Finance degree, and so as of now I am interested in estate planning and possibly tax law, although I know many people change their interests once they are in law school.

I know the obvious choice for that area of study is UF, but when i visited for the admitted students day, they definitely had a more academic, up tight feel than FSU, which seemed more laid back. I definitely left the ASD from FSU more impressed than when I left the visit at UF. I feel like I would regret not going to UF if I did end up doing tax law, and I would say the only thing holding me back from enrolling at UF is that I really didn't get a good feel for the atmosphere there.

Any insight/advise?

UF's tax program is one of the best in the country. If that is what you're interested in, it's probably the better choice, especially if you're interested in getting your LLM.

UF is pretty laid back in my experience, I have made a lot of great friends here and Gainesville is a lot of fun. Granted there are people who take their studies, and, quite frankly, themselves a little too seriously, but I think you're going to get that at any school.

In most situations I would say the difference between the two is negligible enough that the primary aspect of your decision should be how much you like the school/town/students/etc, as Tally and Gainesville are pretty different from most accounts. However, given your financial background and possible desire to study tax law, I would endorse UF, especially given that both are at sticker. In the interest of full disclosure, I will likely be attending FSU with a 20k scholarship over UF at sticker. Either way, as an in-state student you are in a good situation without a truly wrong answer.
