asking this for a friend.
friend is in at GW and Fordham. ideally wants NYC biglaw.
in the past, the credited response seemed to be fordham. however, w/ this new economy, and wall street being downsized hard, and possibly permanently, is fordham still credited?
interested in responses from recent LS grads, 3Ls, or 2Ls, and especially trolls, duh
if x is top x percentage of class for biglaw at fordham, what is the estimated value of x?
if y is top y percentage of class for biglaw at GW, what is the estimated value of y?
holla.

Despite the rankings disparity, GW and Fordham are very similar. Cost of attendance is about the same (friggin abysmal), and both have 20-25% biglaw placement. The only real difference is that one is in NYC and one is in DC, so if your friend wants NYC, I'd go Fordham.
As a side note, if he gets anything more than 10k a year to GW, give good ol' George some serious consideration.

Wants NYC? How is this a debate...

This. Both are very strong regional schools. However one places in NYC, the other DC. Choose the one that is in the city you want to work. UNLESS your friend gets that $105,000 scholly from GW. Then, things are different.

Well... it's not so clear-cut. I am not sure what the exact numbers are, but a significant number of GW grads (just like GULC) end up working in NYC.

Not nearly as many Fordham grads that end up working in NYC...

There is a difference between 20 and 34. They're not even peer schools.

No.
Last year GW was 28 and Fordham was 30. They're both in that range of somewhat-strong yet overshadowed regionals in a major market with a limited national reach. They have pretty similar placement prospects and both require roughly the same #s to get in. And the markets they place to are geographically close with some overlap. They're peers.

Yeah, I have no doubt about that. I was just pointing out that it's not necessarily bizarre for someone from GW to aim for NYC. I'm sure Fordham will give better odds for that though.

Certainly not bizarre, but fordham makes alot more sense for NYC. Unless the OP has scholly dollars. GW has that $105,000 scholly and theyre not super selective as to who gets it. If the OP has that, it is GW for sure. No questions asked.

GW was 28 only for one year b/c USNWR decided to include part time admissions into consideration, after that one year they went back down to 20 where they have been for a while. A difference of 14 spots is like saying that Yale and Georgetown are peer schools, or saying NYU and GW are peer schools.

I think a lot of people would argue that Fordham is only ranked 34 because of its part time program as well. Juts considering the full time program, it has pretty much the same medians/job placement in biglaw at GW

Does your friend have $ at either schools? Considering how insanely expensive these schools are, that matters.

That assumes the peer scale is linear across the entire ranked schools. Clearly it's not.
We're talking strong regional schools here. What other NY school comes above Fordham but below GW?

You also have to consider that a lot of GW students are interested in Public Interest while you can't say the same thing for Fordham, and they still place the same in BigLaw.

Blatant trolling attempt: USC is the Fordham of LA

If you run a search at the directories of most of the top tier NY firms - there are more Fordham grads.

What are your friend's numbers. GW didn't give me the 105K, and I was kind of surprised, considering so many people were getting it.

My daughter has a 3.8 and 170 and got nothing from GW, and got big money elsewhere.

Ehhh it happens. Numbers might be too high for it. GW knows your daughter probably isnt attending, even with that scholly. Your daughter probably wouldve got the full ride to GW if she wanted to ED there though.
