How has TLS affected your thought/application process? Forum

When I first considered law school I would have prayed to get into UF. During LSAT prep I stumble upon the rankings and profiles here. I then decided I wanted to go to UNC. I then found the forum, didn't understand what T14 meant and started stressing out about this whole process in a way I never knew I could. I am now going to be attending a T-14 but worrying that ITE it may be a TTT. This site changed everything. I am glad I came here but ignorance was bliss (at least until I would have tried finding a job or paying off the debt).

Anyone feel that TLS totally changed the course of their life?

As a ridiculous splitter, TLS made me realize that I was destined to attend WUSTL.

TLS taught me to 1) shoot higher, 2) how to play the 'admissions game,' and 3) that I'd be an idiot not to retake.

If it weren't for TLS, I would be nowhere near as prepared for the job market or as far with my application as I am now. I'd be confused and I'd probably settle for a much lower ranked school with far less money than I will be shooting for now.

If I had never found TLS I would be attending a TTT next fall, instead I am going to retake, reapply and go to a TTT in 2012.

a) I heard about the ridiculous scholarships IUB was giving out and got one for myself, and I will more than likely attend

b) I learned that St. John's was not a good first choice, even with my numbers

c) I found that aspiring law students can be real jerks sometimes

I think TLS has gone a long way in informing me about many issues related to law school. But I was already pretty motivated to study hard for the LSAT, and I kind of wonder whether the extra pressure I put on myself (perhaps reinforced by reading TLS) ended up hurting more than helping in LSAT prep and taking the test. On the other hand, if I had been more involved with TLS I may have taken the 'retake' advice more seriously even though I really wanted to get going with law school. While TLS can be genuinely informative, I have also found some of the interactions on the boards fairly unpleasant at times. I think probably the biggest thing TLS has given me is an incredibly strong prestige bias (which admittedly is part of the law world, but I think TLS is prestige on steroids).

Before TLS, I thought that I HAD to be within a school's 25-75 to stand a chance - so I was looking at TTTs mostly. I didn't think that the fact that my LSAT was above their 75th would matter.

I think I can pretty safely say I'll be go to a better school than otherwise thanks to TLS.

I had my deposit down at a T2 in Chicago, came on TLS and pulled the plug, still will probably get OCI pwned according to TLS tho

How do you think I feel as a 170? Worst part is, my administration considered 170 as 97th percentile. I'm so ashamed.

Sorry, that came off wrong I guess. I'm very thankful I got that score. If I had never found TLS however, I would have never even considered the possibility that I didn't prepare enough or whatever.

TLS convinced me not to waste my 171 on the part-time program of the local T2. (It also convinced me that a 171 is sorta...average.

) I'm now deferring a year and quitting my job to attend a T14 full-time in 2012. Literally the first risk I'll have ever taken in my whitebread suburban life.

Before TLS I thought Brooklyn at sticker was reasonable. Now I know that attending at that price automatically brings forth the Rapture. Glad I checked this site out.

before I found TLS, BU was my dream and my initial 163 was a 'good' lsat. Note to self: never google 'good' before something I really want. Always google 'great' or even 'amazing'. Thanks TLS.

Without TLS, I would have taken a decent scholarship at the local TTT and either a) graduated with little debt and no job prospects, or b) graduated with little debt and mediocre prospects confined to a very strict region.

With TLS, I'm attending Duke at sticker and will either a) graduate with tons of debt and incredible job prospects, or b) graduate with tons of debt and poor job prospects, become disillusioned with the world, and turn to a life of crime and alcoholism.

Edit: Also, I'm much more of an asshole and an elitist. And I spend way more time than is reasonable typing on an online message board to anonymous 0Ls. Hooray.
