Top Law Schools

The only reason I'm asking is because I would like to ultimately end up living and working in Colorado...

I am also wait listed at ucla Penn and Michigan....

I'd do Cornell or USC, but hey thats just me.

Go to Cornell they just rocked the NLJ placement 58%, job in NYC > no job, then you can lateral to CO later or perhaps get a job in CO through targeted mailing or something

Quality of life issue. Yes, if you love snow skiing & year round outdoor activities & hope to work in the Rocky Mtn. region after completing law school. Might as well start to build up contacts now.

OP-go to CU. The contacts you make in Colorado will be more valuable to you in the long run than the name on your degree.

I believe that jcunni5 is at UVA.

Colorado's law school facility is gorgeous & only about 5 or 6 years old. Boulder is a nice place to live--very young, upscale & well educated population. Only 35 minutes or so to Denver which is also a great place to live & work. Denver's airport is a hub for some airlines & the Amtrak connections & destinations (San Francisco & Chicago) are wonderful.

Also, in general, I think that willingness to work in a BigLaw environment is a factor that contributes to Doucheyness

I go to Cornell and hope that I am not douchey. My advice is, make sure you have a big scholarship at CU and if so, don't feel bad about going there. Equal $, I would have a hard time choosing CU over either of the others. Cornell (and USC to a lesser degree) give you better fall back options, although I guess it is douchey to consider those.

do you want to work for a large law firm? if so, from what i've gathered, take Cornell (even if you want to work in denver right out of school).

haha i go to UVA, i wasn't trying to be douchey i just wanted to suggest to OP that if he wanted the best career prospects, which is the main reason to go to law school really, he should go to Cornell.... also i disagree w/ poster that said contacts in CO > than school name... networking is definitely important but more people will be willing to give you a chance from a higher school... law is a very prestige based profession, for better or worse, and the basic rule of thumb is that you want to have the best school you can on your resume... also just in general Cornell will have more employers come on campus which will also increase your chance of landing something good

I guess that's right if you care more about your first job out of school than your long term career in Colorado.

Law students can be very short sighted...

What if you decide to run for office in Colorado?

your first job is very important for future career prospects. realizing that is the opposite of shortsighted.

To be fair, we had to go through lolCornell and omg NU rocks for the last year. It's kind of like poetic justice. Cornell is now at top!

+1, this is great advice. Most people burn out of BIGLAW in 3-5 years, so you don't want to write off BIGPOLITICS as an exit plan.

It isn't easy at all. Lawyers in Colorado (and most other states, for that matter) will hometown you. Your decision to go to Cornell will be interpreted as a signal that you think that CU isn't good enough for you.

What's more impressive is to go to Cornell and then choose to practice in CO. That's what employers in CO care.

I love Denver/Boulder by the way. I had a great time there and in Aspen. The sky is simply bluer up there.
