What placement rates are being prognosticated for 2014?

We knew that this year's placement rates, along with next year's, were going to be ridiculously low. Therefore while the Top 50 Go-To Law Schools provide us with a relative ranking of schools, I'm not sure how helpful the actual placement statistics are.

(Given that the worst of the economic recession has passed and reportedly job prospects are SLOWLY improving)

Why did you make another thread for this?

Aren't you busy looking at resumes, Mr. Biglaw Hiring Director? Or wait I mean 0L? Which was it, again?

it was even better before he edited his post. originally he said he was a hiring partner so we should all listen to him. he edited it out once someone pointed out he was a 1L.

These rankings are utterly useless without knowing about clerkship and public interest placement. I really don't understand why everyone makes such a big deal out of it.

Except for the most part it is, particularly if we're talking about # of attorney (vice # of firms).

We all know the only reason Informative posted this was to point out that BC had a 3% higher placement than BU.

So what are you Informative? A 1L? Or BigLaw associate? Or hiring director? Only one explanation--Informative is...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desmond_Hume

Yes. If it's going to suggest that Yale gives you the 15th-best shot at BigLaw, and that Cornell gives you a better shot than 12 of the other T14, then it is completely and utterly useless without proper context. The rankings just don't have practical value if you don't know about the self-selection biases of each school.

People know the context. Everyone knows students from schools like Yale and Stanford can do whatever they want. Who the hell even looks at NLJ250 if they get admitted to Yale? If you can't get biglaw from Yale you were probably bottom 1% with bad interview skills.

That's one theory.

I know that I started thinking about other career options today.

I was only able to see 1-10. Anyone know what 11-25 looked like?

Even factoring in such biases Cornell absolutely crushed like a mother F... I wouldn't say that its better than 12 of the T14 but we can probably say (given historical clerkship, gov't, PI placement) that 2/3rds of that graduating class walked away with the kind of jobs available to only the very top students at schools outside the T30 or so...

That's pretty freakin good if you can be a well-below average student at a school and still land a nice job
