Top Law Schools

I got into both schools with each one offering $75,000 scholarships. They are both equally well ranked schools. Both excellent reputations. I am coming from CA I want to work for the DOJ but I would like to come back and work for their offices in the DOJ. I want to eventually go back to CA. I did get into Hastings, but received no $. These are both excellent schools, but I would just like some opinions.

On the one hand, BU has better job placement overall. On the other hand, Minnesota Twin Peaks has significantly better placement into the white lodge.

Dude, it's kind of a toss-up.

Do you really want to live in Minnesota for three years, and if you had to be stuck in a place, would you rather it be Boston or Minnesota?

BU is gonna cost you more overall mostly b/c of COL. BU is very well respected on the East Coast whereas Minnesota is very well respected in the midwest, especially Minnesota. BU degree has better name recognition. Not many people correlate Minnesota JD with high rank/prestige on the East Coast. If you want to work at DOJ, BU makes more sense b/c it has better recognition and people you network with will be more willing to help you get a DOJ gig if you go to a school that's more well known.

Wow thank you for all the advice. It would be slightly more to live in Boston, but I think the scholarships negate costs quite a bit. I like knowing that Boston has a slightly better national reputation despite even rankings. My only issue is going to be freezing my butt off during the winters. When I arrived in Boston for the first time this January it blizzarded twice.

lol, well if it's between the weather in Boston and the weather in MN, it's a no-brainer pick for Boston

I would go for BU given those options, but neither is an ideal option if you are hoping for a Cali DOJ job.

Wait....did you seriously just imply that Minnesota has warmer weather than Boston?

LOL no, I was just saying that Boston was cold and I do expect Minnesota to be cold equally well.

BU does have 5-10% consistently go to the West Coast, even with self selection, so it probably has a not insignificant alumni base there?

This is a tie. As others have already written, select based on where you prefer to spend the next three years with the understanding that it is possible that you may start your career in the same geographic region.

I'm going to say BU for you, because you don't even know where the U of Minnesota even is, which could complicate matters.

Since this thread is winding down, I'd just like to say I recommend BU wholeheartedly because you don't want to run the risk of Lawyer BOB possessing you and making you sue your daughter and her friends.

I just want to point out that it is the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities.

Twin Peaks is either a 1991 television show or a World of Warcraft battleground. Which means whichever you confused it with, you lose.

Considering the new rankings what would people suggest? Minnesota is now ranked 20 and BU is ranked 22 still?
Does this change anything? I still want to work with DOJ

Means absolutely 0. I'd still go to BU in your situation, better over-all placement. If you want midwest though, def take UMinn.
