Right decision in your circumstance although DC is not that horribly far away and if you are going to law school your life will be a little choppy over the next couple of years. I would keep pushing Fordham and wait until the deposit date comes closer. Send them the other offers you are considering as well as the $84 at Minnesota. Even though Minnesota is ranked well, they were probably thinking... who the f--- really wants to live in Minnesota... she is just trying to leverage us.

My future husband is going to NYU in the fall. I love New York. I'm really trying to convince myself that $2-3k more per year for a school ranked 10 below GW is worth it. I want to be in NYC, but I'm just scared. I tried to Leverage $84k at UMN with Fordham and they didn't bite. Oh wells. I just need to be constantly reassured that this is the right decision. Does anyone know the approx % of BU and GW grads that go into biglaw?

Yes. GW is ranked 10 spots higher and has the #3 national monument law program.
This. The rankings determine where firms OCI, and smaller firms and govt. agencies pay close attention to the ranking minutiae when making hiring decisions.
A hiring partner at Alston & Byrd told me that Emory's plunge this year has them really concerned. If they don't increase their library volumes ASAP, they are gonna withdraw from OCI.

Idk about GW, but top 1/3 at BU seems to always be competitive for biglaw positions in both Boston and to a lesser extent NY (we place a solid chunk of grads in NY each year). The most recent go-to law schools list had us placing 30% into NLJ250 firms, though those stats represent class of 2010

If you want to be in NY, going to GW over Fordham because GW is 10 spots higher is bugfuck insane.

Difference in debt off of tuition is $35000 because of respective tuition costs. The Northwestern program is the AJD which gives me an extra year of work (expecting I find work) and keeps living expenses comparable. Thoughts?
Depends on where you want to practice. If you want to work in Texas, then UT. Midwest or East coast, probably NU.

I predict Texas will fall back out of the t14 within the next year or two, but 150 years from now you'll still see UT grads driving around the South with "t14" decals and license plate holders on their hovertrucks.

You mean their NLJ 250 numbers? Does anybody on this forum realize there's other firms out there and that you don't have to get paid as much in Texas to take home the same amount of cash?

Thats true..no state tax, no local taxes, no property taxes and I think they are getting rid of federal taxes as well
Tax law is probably not a good choice for you.

ATL has the all the funny of TLS with far less stupid. But you trade out the stupid for racist, so it's a tradeoff... But the racist also boosts the funny. So its a toss up.

Thanks for the support guys. Sirwilliam- I already tried leveraging GW and BU and $$ at UMN they were just like Eh. Your LSAT is too low. See ya! Lol but it's cool. Again...I just seem to need constant reassurance I guess. It's a huge risk.

And yeah my problem is I'm from cali and who the eff knows where Ill wanna be in 4 yrs, THAT is the scary shit. Right now I wanna leave Cali and go to NYC.

Mal - ya you're right lol he's gonna be big time so I'll just be the trophy wife ;)

Thanks again guys. I was actually surprised I wasn't called a dumbass for choosing Fordham at sticker over GW and BU. Is TLS getting ...NICER!?!? :o

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
