Debt vs. Ranking

How much money would it take sway you away from a CCN and go with DN, assuming all schools required 200k worth of loans.

Assume your aspirations are BigLaw or some other prestigious form of employment.

Also, I know 50k worth of debt is the best case scenario. I am polling to see the minimal amount of money it would take to make the decision attractive to you.

Thus, if 50k less in debt (Option 2) is enough to change your mind, select that option.

Reasons are always appreciated.

I would take Northwestern over CCN at the same cost, however,Cornell, Georgetown or Duke would require very substantial scholarships to forego CCN in my opinion.

Why so much love for N? N and D are pretty close to being equal to MVP.

Also, would this poll be better if I said MVPDN? I know many people hate on Cornell and Georgetown.

Location !!! And biglaw placement. More mature student body due to work experience after undergrad. For one interested in academia, then Chicago & Columbia are far better choices than the other schools mentioned.

I can understand that you may like a big city and a more mature student body, but Duke has equally as good of BigLaw placement as Northwestern. DO NOT show me the one graph where Northwestern was first. I have seen it. There were a lot of no offers in NYC and that data does not tell the big picture.

Wow! I thought that the BigLaw placement difference between schools like D and N and CCN was at most 10%. That 10% difference (or less) is worth 100k or more?

I feel like the difference between NW/Duke and Cornell/GTown definitely includes substantial scholarship. I'd be likely to take N or D with 100k v. CCN at 200k, but for Cornell or GTown it would probably have to be 50k debt or less.

I would make my decision based on opportunities to pursue biglaw, since there seems to be a noticeable difference between D/N and C/G, where the former two provide comparable opportunities to CCN.

Moxie: After rereading your post, I agree with your points.

I simply think he is saying that it would take more money for C and G to be attractive as compared to DN. He understands what I am asking and I actually changed the thread because I neglected the differences even between these four schools.

Bump.

Sorry. I know there were about 30 votes before the reset. But Moxie's point was valid and the results may have been skewed due to what he/she mentioned.

Shameless self-bump. Again.

I am interested in more perspectives from TLS.
