I got into both NYLS and Hofstra with scholarships. Just comparing NYLS with Hofstra, do u really think its a big difference for employment? (not considering bar passage rates, since NYLS obviously has a better passage rate...

Unless your scholly is a full ride please please please dont go to either of these schools. You will be unemployed, pretty much guaranteed.

Hofstra is the better school, but thats not a tribute to how good Hofstra is but more to how bad NYLS is.

That's a pretty dumb question to ask on this forum. I can already imagine the amount of "retake" responses you will get here. Unfortunately, there are many people here that would tell you "retake" for every law school aside from the top 10, which is ludicrous!
They're basically telling you don;t go to law school even though they themselves are in law school.

Anyway, it's pretty clear from the rankings that you would be much better off in Hofstra. NYLS is a 3rd tier ripoff law school, whereas at Hofstra you would have a decent chance at a good job. It's ranked 86, not that far from SJU at 72.

If the mods have any mercy, they will lock this before the onslaught.

No problem. By the way, if you had to choose between NYLS and CUNY, I would definitely go with CUNY, which is way cheaper than NYLS, and is not that much different regarding job prospects.

What do people think about Hofstra on a full scholarship?

What do you have to lose if that's the case? I would think that it's definitely competative enough with other tier 2 schools, and like most of them, you would have to be near the top of your class anyway if you want biglaw. It would probably be easier to compete at Hofstra.

Of course, if you had a similar scholarship to a better school you should go with that school. I'm just saying that full ride at Hofstra ain't that bad like the people here will tell you.

Like that dude said earlier - I'm aniticipating the onslaught on this thread

Wouldn't it be cheaper to live around Hofstra?

Take a look at the contingencies attached to either scholarship. Not sure which scholarship you were offered, but NYLS frequently has very rigid GPA/ top 15% ranking requirements. As I recall, Hofstra set their scholarships pretty leniently on the top 40%. Obviously you're going to give it your best wherever you go, but don't go into dreamland thinking its a given that you'll be top 15%. The debt will sting.

Three years of a salary and any investment earnings you'd make from that income? It's called opportunity cost. Look it up. This is why the usual credited response is that even with a full ride it is better not to go at all.

You need to really examine other options outside law when these are your only law school options. Would you go to the worst cooking school if you wanted to be a chef? The worst business school if you wanted to be in business? The worst mechanic's school if you wanted to be a mechanic? These schools drastically narrow your options when you are done with them.

Not saying I totally disagree, but I wouldn't call Hofstra the worst law school. I mean, you've got Valpo, TJ and of course, Cooley. But I see your point.

When writing a list out of the worst T4s, I don't think Valpo makes it close to the top...

+1. Screw stretching and improving yourself through education. Money is the only thing worth living for.

If by the only thing worth living for you mean necessary to begin saving now in order to have any chance at affording retirement, then I believe you have completely understood my post.

Yes. I live near Hempstead and, although a majority of it is ghetto, the area around Hofstra isn't bad and the rent is nowhere near Manhattan. There are a lot of law firms in the surrounding towns too.

Sorry if your feeling got hurt, but money woes are reality.
