So, my career aspirations are...
CA biglaw > Tx Biglaw > ........ > other Biglaw (inc. new york) > ....> clerkship > ......HUGE GAP....> everything else
170; 3.76 -- TX residency
Poll question about what to choose so far in my cycle
Right now Ive gotten into UT with in-state tuition and a $28,500 scholly on top
I expect money from vandy
also in at GTown and UCLA (probs can squeeze money here)
applied to all top schools (save yale, and northwestern)
what do yall think?
also, what would i do if i tried to get off wait list

Do you have ties to CA? If so, what?

You want texas biglaw and you have huge money at texas. This is a no brainer. UVA at sticker doesnt make much sense for your goals. It wont give you a better shot at Texas biglaw and its going to cost probably twice the price. As for CA, that market is certainly open to you at UT if you do well. Besides youre probably not getting off the UVA waitlist anyway. Theyre overenrolled every year, and the few people they may take are going to have better numbers.
UT makes all the sense for you. Take it and enjoy!

Past performance is no guarantee of future returns - Given the sudden drop in total application volume, I will be surprised if we are over-enrolled this year. That said, Texas is the correct choice here.

yeah, im good with texas biglaw. Just a thought. Would I have a comparative advantage at a diff school with my tx ties, for getting back to texas?

Pretty sure you can't find raw data to support that point. The answer is: possibly.
Instate at UT with $28k is as good as it gets:
By the end of your 3 years, you'll only have paid $50k, and you'd probably have an excellent Biglaw job even ITE.
Compare that with UVa - $195k debt/money spent.

According to UT's website, instaters are expected to have $45,170 estimate costs per year. If you do all the math and subtract your scholly, that makes UT cost like $107,010.
UVA would cost $67,700 per year, which is $203,100 for all three years.
Its about twice the cost.

Then figure up the interest on that. It's even more killer.

kinda confused - isn't OP's UT scholarship given every year?
Texas:
45170 * 3 = 135,510
minus (scholly) = 28,500 * 3 = minus 85,500
Total cost = 135,510 - 85,500 = $50,010
UVa:
Total cost = 67,700 * 3 = $203,100
plus interest for both

no, the scholarship is 9500 per year. Would I be getting 72k a year from vandy (if so im going.)
Thanks for the responses. I feel like I need to do more research on this comparative advantage idea.

If vandy is giving you 72k a year, I would recommend going to vandy for as many years as possible.
