Which t14 has the lowest COL?

Post by socraticmethodman » Sat Jan 15, 2011 6:20 am

I looked for a thread and was surprised when I couldn't find one. Instead of having to look through each schools thread, I figured I'd make a thread discussing the COL at the t14.

Cornell

Analysis done by ILRG, but has inaccuracies of course...highly doubt that Harvard's COL is as low as indicated.

My knee jerk reaction would be Duke or UVa.

Same here. I went through most of the t14 and put their financial aid dept's projected 1st year COA. Cornell isn't close to Duke. I know that COL and COA aren't the same thing, but it's COL you're allowed to borrow. If you really wanted, you could go through this list and subtract the tuition for each school to determine COL.

Sorry there's no HYS. If I didn't apply, I didn't bother getting the data.

UVA has a pretty low COL, especially when comparing Charlottesville to Boston/NYC/CA.

UVA or Duke would be my guess. You can get some ridiculously nice housing in the triangle for the money.

I'm guessing UVA. I doubt any place within walking distance of a T14 school can beat these prices (LinkRemoved). If it's not UVA, it's either Duke or Cornell.

Seems like UVa, Mich, Duke, and Cornell have to be the cheapest four. Between them I doubt there is much difference. I'm betting you CAN pay quite a bit in any of those places for a nice place in a prime location. But any of those places will have very cheap options if you're flexible.

As far as total Cost of Attendance, Michigan is $65,350 out-of-state. $62,350 in-state.
