Hi, I just got the duke fee waiver but I totally didn't expect that because of my LSAT score is not even close to their median, (170) but my GPA is above 3.9.
Should I apply???

Apply if you would like to go there, but it is not any sort of guarantee.

Thanks a lot! I'm really interested in their joint program- M. Engineering/ JD. I will apply under ED then.

I got the same thing even tho theres almost no chance of me being accepted. weird.

I also just received a fee waiver. It looks like they are sending out a lot of fee waivers to get their application numbers up. Selectivity is a component of the US News rankings, so the more people they deny, the higher their ranking. I tend to think that as long as your numbers are close, anyone has a chance... but I wouldn't take a late fee waiver like this as any indication that you are a lock.

I'll echo a comment above, however, that it's worth $12 to take a shot at it.

It shocked me when I received it, mostly because it's so late in the cycle. I think I'm passing on this one.

I know. I kinda thought, well, my GPA is over 4.00, maybe they just need a higher GPA in their 2014 class! But, yeah, no.

I doubt this is JUST to boost applications. NYU was famous for doing this and they admitted me with marginal numbers off a fee waiver last cycle. 170/3.9 should make for a good shot.

Schools give fee waivers to get more applications to reduce their acceptance rate. A LOT of people get fee waivers and get rejected.

They have to be. I have a 162 (albeit with a 4.08 LSAC GPA...) so... there's no way they want me. Only explanation ends up being boosting their %.

162/4.08 boosts gpa median if that's what they want to do. And based on the info here, maybe it is.

Looking at the last 3 years of TLS data (which is a decent sample, right?), the only 162/163 LSAT'ers admitted were URM. Granted, I have some nice softs including military deployments but... yeah I dunno.

I mean, if it's free and requires very little work, i'd take the hail mary. Just don't expect anything.

Apply, but just know they gave it to you to reject you. USNWR strikes again.

Best case scenario:
They mercifully WL you and you get to tell people at the school you actually end up at that you "almost" got into Duke off the waitlist.

As I said, it's possibly (probably) an attempt to get their #s up. Pathetic, but that's the game! I still think that you if you think you have a decent shot, and you would like to end up at Duke... you might as well go for it. You don't have that much to lose.

My LSAT is score is too low, 160 even though my GPA is very high and I'm a foreigner, I feel that I have very slim chance of getting into any of the top 20.
