I'm interested in doing public interest law so I'm particularly concerned about debt. But it's hard to turn down Harvard....

I appreciate any advice!

Harvard and it's not even close. Harvard's LIPP is insane--far better than Cornell or Michigan's LRAPs. If you want to do PI having a strong LRAP is critical. You basically won't have to pay anything after you graduate from HLS if you do PI.

Usually I'm not the type to say something like this, but anyone who tells you to go to Mich or Cornell either: 1. has no idea what they're talking about 2. They want your seat at HLS

Harvard. As noted above, LIPP (and the security of Harvard's endowment) means you don't need to worry about the debt, and H really opens some doors for public interest work.

Even with a Darrow I'd probably still choose Harvard.

Harvard. Although if offered a Darrow Scholarship of full tuition plus a stipend at Michigan, then Michigan looks more attractive than Harvard at full sticker in my opinion. Darrow benefits should extend beyond immediate financial rewards.

Professors may take a personal interest in those students whom they selected for Darrow Scholarships. This can help when seeking employment.

How much, exactly, at Michigan?

Career goals?

As much as going to HLS? Plus, from what I understand, if you graduate from HLS and want to live in a cardboard box, their LIPP will cover you.

IMHO, if you get a Darrow at Michigan then it makes the decision a wash. I would have probably taken the Darrow over HLS.

How risk-averse are you and what kind of PI job are you looking for?

I am interested in becoming a public defender. And I received 67K from Michigan over the course of the three years.

Not enough, in my opinion.

Harvard. 67k really is not even close to enough to sway this towards Michigan.

This. And the fact that OP is even considering Cornell makes me twitch.

+1 - Absent a compelling need to live in Ann Arbor, run, don't walk, to Harvard.

Lets put it this way, I would likely go to Harvard at sticker over a full ride at Cornell. Go to Harvard. /thread.

Oh, in that case.

Ask for more money at Michigan. No need to "run" anywhere. Absent a larger scholarship, Harvard's the choice.
