BC vs. Cardozo ($18000 per year)
well, it's still early in the cycle.
my stats are not good at all. 163 (3 takes), 3.8+, top liberal arts college, top ivy MA.
was dead set at BC unless I got into UCLA (which is not likely). just got a call from cardozo and says that they are offering a scholarship of 18000 per year with 2.95 GPA stipulation (which is like 80% of the class according to the woman).
well, i'm still waiting for other schools. but with my numbers, i don't think i can get in better schools. so anyone can help me to choose?
i def would prefer NYC over boston (well, boston is still a great city, it's just that most of my friends are in NYC). but i heard BC has a more collegiate environment and i really want to make some friends in law school. but cardozo is right in the city, and i'm such a clubbing/bar person.... in terms of employment, NYC would be my no.1 choice and boston no.2. so should i pick cardozo over bc?

Re: BC vs. Cardozo ($18000 per year)
BC can probably get you an NYC job better than Cardozo. $18k/year is not nearly enough that I would be swayed towards Cardozo over BC. You're still looking at $100-150k debt coming from Cardozo.
According to the NALP, a decent chunk of NY employers do OCI at BC as well. NYC is not like other markets, if you have the grades you can probably slang interviews from top schools outside the region. IIRC, I read that plenty of BC/BU students targeted NYC during the last OCI and did pretty well.

BC I guess, but buyer beware if you're paying sticker jeez. What BK said above about BC to NY is pretty true.

well, i'm not confident about getting good grades in either school. i did minimum reading/writing in college and i'm not american, so i feel that i'll end up bottom of my class anyway. life is hard ;-(rad law wrote:BC I guess, but buyer beware if you're paying sticker jeez. any suggestion for 0L preparation?

Search TLS for 0L prep. The general consensus is that you are best off relaxing but that if you do prep try and do stuff like learning what 1L will be like or how to take exam stuff rather than trying to substantially learn the law (like reading cases or E+E's).mz253 wrote:any suggestion for 0L preparation?
Your English seems fine to me (admittedly it is only a couple forum posts), but if you really are worried about it I would suggest trying to read some decently dense material (i.e. The Economist) and brushing up on your reading/typing skills.

Re: BC vs. Cardozo ($18000 per year)
oh, i think my reading is fine. it's just my writing. back in college, i did get A for humanities papers, but whenever i read the opinion pages of WSJ or New York Times, i feel that WOW, i'll never write anything like that. but prob most law students don't have that decent writing skill either.
i'm just thinking too much!

I'd advise reading---a lot
If you graduate at the bottom of your class at Cardozo, you might as well not go

Re: BC vs. Cardozo ($18000 per year)
Total Cost of Attendance (according to the website of each school):
Cardozo = $70,683
BC = 59,800
That's a difference of $10,883. Once you factor in the 18k a year scholarship, BC ends up costing $7,117 more per year. Is BC worth $7,117 or so a year more than Cardozo to you? I'd say the employment statistics make the answer to that question yes. I wouldn't go to either at that price though. You're probably in at St. John's with a full scholarship. While St. John's aint the best school in the city, the employment prospects from Dozo really aren't much better.

That COA is honestly stupid. Just because Dozo is in downtown doesn't mean you have to live there. The PATH train to Hoboken and Jersey City are right there, as are NQR, L, 456, and FM are right there---living a 20-30 minute train ride away means you can get 700-800 dollar a month rent in a decent neighborhood---and not need a carAqualibrium wrote:Total Cost of Attendance (according to the website of each school):

Plus if you want to study, the drunken loudness every day of the week would kill you

That is a horrible way of thinking about it, as someone who would love to go to BC at sticker and wants to be a lawyer, this pains memz253 wrote:i'm not trying to think about money. with a useless liberal arts degree, i don't really know what else i can do.Aqualibrium wrote:Total Cost of Attendance (according to the website of each school):

Find entry level work with room for improvement. Start out not making much and eventually work your way up. Only go to law school if you really want to be a lawyer because you definitely have other options.i'm not trying to think about money. with a useless liberal arts degree, i don't really know what else i can do.
You better be thinking about money if you're about to be six figures in debt and are going to need to pay it off somehow.

I'm talking about your potential law school debt. Nobody with that debt is in a good position without a decent way to pay it back.mz253 wrote:

Don't let the nightlife of a school's respective city influence your decision at all. Both have great nightlife anyhow, but NYC has more exclusive (read: more expensive) clubs.

Nightlife in Boston is awesome BUT keep in mind the fact that BC law not in Boston, it's like a 45 min T (subway) ride (but the T stops running at 12), and getting a cab at 2am when all the bars close to take you back to BC is damn near impossiblewhat's the night life in boston like?

yea, that's what i'm thinking too. right now, going out in nyc costs me nothing. my friends pick up all bills. but going out in boston, i'll be on my own...and paying my own bills.birD wrote:Nightlife in Boston is awesome BUT keep in mind the fact that BC law not in Boston, it's like a 45 min T (subway) ride (but the T stops running at 12), and getting a cab at 2am when all the bars close to take you back to BC is damn near impossiblewhat's the night life in boston like?

Def go for the clubbing/bar scene. Most life decisions should give overweight consideration to this factor.
