In terms of career prospects and student morale. I've talked with many Brooklyn students who are upset by the perceptions of their school due to the scandal....
Cardozo (sticker)
Brooklyn (12k / y)

The career prospects are roughly the same at these schools, but I don't know about student morale.
Between these two schools, I'd take Brooklyn given the scholarship.

What about St. John's or Hofstra with more Scholarship money?

What scandal? The diesel jeans thing in their library? Tell them not to worry for long because they will soon be working in professions that are not law related where they will not need to tell anybody they went to Brooklyn.
And frankly, they should have been worried long before that, like when they heard the biggest dorm was named after Geraldo.
Cardozo really is no better reputation wise. You will always find 1 or 2 grads from these schools in your typical biglaw firm but most of them are fighting over the same client dollars in local courts in NY/NJ

What are your career goals? From what I have heard and read, 'dozo is rarely worth sticker...

My career goals are simple. To be employed as a lawyer. I understand biglaw is incredibly difficult to break through ITE, especially from anywhere below T14....
Cardozo may also match my need-based scholarship, ie. $10k a year no stipulations.

I probably would not do either unless you have enough self financing to keep debt under 75k or so.

No, Cardozo is not significantly better than Brooklyn.
That being said, neither of them are really that much better than St. John's. I'd probably go there for as large a scholarship as possible (asking to get stipulations removed) than to either Cardozo at sticker or BLS at 12k/year.

you should'nt post this question at TLS. BLS is not as bad as people are making it out to be. The alumni connections are great, and if you graduate within the top 20% you have a very good chance of getting an excellent job. Take the scholarship at BLS.

Career prospects are similarly crap.

I'm on the other coast but at a similarly ranked school....top 25% doesn't mean much right now. even top 2% is no guarantee for T2 schools.

cardozo has a distinctly better reputation in new york as far as i can tell. brooklyn is seen as really sleezy and crappy like new york law or touro.

Honestly neither, but Dozo is a good deal better than Brooklyn IMO.

Assuming the economy doesn't pick up then neither is worth paying for, unless you get more than half tuition in scholarships without grade stipulations. IMO you should see if you can get full rides at lower nyc schools. Good Luck

For any question that starts out with "Is Cardozo significantly better than....", the answer is almost certainly "no."

I dont think I would attend either, however I wouldn't be suprised if Brooklyn passes or gets ridiculously close to Cardozo in the USNWR rankings this year based on Cardozo's medians look like they may down based on LSN so far, and Brooklyns bar passage rate is like 6 percentage points better than Cardozo or something.

The problem with this thread is that it poses the wrong question. The question should be, "Got into Cardozo and Brooklyn; should I even go to law school?" I would say the answer is no. Why? Because the chances that you will be in a better position in 4 years than you are right now run about 5-10%.

Well, I have to stick up for Brooklyn a little bit here --
(1) there is no dorm named after Geraldo. The largest dorm is called Feil Hall. There is a little lounge that Geraldo Rivera, a graduate, donated.
(2) No, it is not perceived as "sleazy like Touro" or whatever. It's 110 years old and has a disproportionately high number of people in top firms compared to Cardozo and other T2s. Cardozo is relatively new and less established.
All that said, I wouldn't go to either without significant scholarship. Maybe Cardozo's current ranking in US News gives you, like, a 5% chance vs. a 3% chance of a 160k/year job. The vast majority of both schools will likely graduate unemployed for the next few years at least.
