If you want to work in WV, go to WVU.

WVU is cheaper and you want to be in West Virginia. I think it's a no brainer between the two.

Would a UK Law Degree in WV be a negative? It seems like the UK LS is ranked significantly higher?
Ranking doesn't matter in this situation. There wouldn't be a negative per say, but if you know you don't want to practice in Kentucky at all, you shouldnt be going to school in Kentucky.

I am not too keen on WVU but like UK quite a bit.
I went to and still attend UK, if you ever wanted to work in Kentucky you would be set with a UK degree, and if you are high in your class ranking you could probably get a BigLaw job, assuming you were one of the best students at UK. That is my 2 cents on it, but I don't know about WVU at all. I have lived my whole life in Lexington, Ky, so if you have any questions about the city feel free to ask. The law school is its own entity and there are lots cheap apartments across the street, if living it a concern at all. And a nice hookah shop down the street in walking distance lol

I have to disagree w/ the rankings comment. Facilities and surrounding students are a huge part of LS. I would think a higher ranked school would offer both.
I hate to pull the "I'm a 2L with work experience and experience looking for work, and you are a 0L" card, but rankings don't matter at all in this situation. What matters is where you want to work. Either school will limit your ability to get a job to the 200 or so miles surrounding the law school (basically the state your school is in).

However, I would like to go to a school where I would enjoy the environment and the experience.
That changes the question entirely. If you have a guaranteed job, go wherever you want.

There really isn't a need for this kind of shit.

Edit: OP, go with WVU. You could have a good career out of there provided you do well, and the cost is pretty good. You will not start of at 160k but at least you aren't a jackass.

In this situation, there is no right answer--just personal preference. If you attend Kentucky with intentions of practicing in West Virginia, then you sacrifice three years of connection building. If you attend West Virginia with a job waiting for you, then you endure an undesirable environment & risk being too provincial.

Hm. Maybe I should tell me grandfather he should not be making his 1M a year salary because he went to a "state" school for LS.

Informative - You have some rough roads ahead my friend. A "Harvard" education can only take you so far.
Not to send like a dick to other posters who have been helpful, but I would be willing to wager that I can graduate at the bottom of my class at Florida Coastal and still be making more money at age 30 then you will be making at age 50. Enjoy pondering that truth, my friend.
That's your comeback? That you'll make a lot of money piggybacking on your grandpa's success? I suppose your dad can beat up his dad, too.

Sigh...

I'm sure the OP is aware of the size and scope (or lack thereof) of the West Virginia legal market. Not everyone is dead set on a 160k biglaw job in NYC. Shitting on the OP's goals only proves that "cosmopolitan" people are just as ignorant and prejudiced as everyone else.

OP: Go to WVU. The difference in prestige is not enough to justify the extra cost. Besides, if your grandfather is a successful attorney, he should be able to hook you up with a good job.

lol johnnyutah, lol. L no.

seriously to the OP: I'm a UK 1L and it's the bomb dot com. But if you have a FOR SURE job lined up after you take the bar, look at factors outside prestige (and lol at the idea of UK or WVU having anything resembling LS prestige). For instance, Calipari teams are more fun to watch than Huggins teams. (Yes, Huggy Bear owns Cal on the court.)

Okay, really, you shouldn't decide where you go to LS based on basketball (alone). haha. Take a visit or two and see how you like both areas when classes are actually in session.

It had better be, to make up for being located in Lexington.
