you might not get into either dude. Boalt is definitely the better option for cali though. I'd say LSAT is too low for B and UVA OOS RD is tough to crack.

Since you already have ties in CA, yes, UVa will get you where you need to go.

I think ED UVa may be the +EV decision for you at this point too...

If you ED UVa...your chances given how things have gone so far are >50% of getting in.

If you RD UVa..your chances are very slim as a OOS reverse splitter and you risk getting locked out of Boalt, where your odds are most likely <50% anyway.

You're looking good for UCLA, USC etc...but are unlikely to get huge money from either...and those don't have nearly the flexibility outside of CA that UVa would offer.

HTH

edit: (assumes no retake)

what makes you think UVA outplaces Boalt in CA? I'm pretty sure that's false.

OP, how high do you think you can score on a retake? basically, what was your PT average? that GPA is ridiculous so I'm not sure I would ED to UVA. Boalt is likely out this cycle but if you kill the LSAT and apply early, anything could be in play. UVA is a great school, but if you have a good job, I don't see the harm in waiting if you can bring the score up.

If you retake for a 168-170 you'll have a shot at CCN ED next cycle. With a 172+ you'd have a strong shot at Harvard.

HYS CCN MVP outplace Boalt in general for biglaw, but you're still going to need to be top 30%/1/4 to be competitive for SF biglaw. (People I know who have biglaw in SF from my MVP also went to Berkeley/Stanford undergrad and have top 1/4 grades. According to friends I know at Boalt, it's not much different unless you have an IP background/impressive WE/military experience/URM status.)

So to answer your question, if your heart is set ONLY on CA biglaw (in particular SF biglaw), I don't think any school outside of HYS is worth sticker because odds are you won't be in the top quarter of your class at any T-14.

I hear the CA bar is very protective of CA law graduates. I don't know how that works, but I'm told it does. If you want to practice in CA, go to school in CA.

WUT? The only slight benefit you get from attending a California school is that you pick up a few of the weird community property laws applicable to California, which are not applicable to other major market states. Of course, most people learn everything for the bar exam from Barbri, so it doesn't really matter anyway.
