Resident tuition - International student

Hello all!

If I am an international student that will hypothetically go to a school that offers lower in-state tuition, can I qualify for that lowered tuition after one year or must I be a US citizen/permanent resident?

I'm thinking about UConn, etc.

Cheers!

I have the same question. It would be great if someone can answer that question.

Unsure on if you need to be a citizen. However, not all states allow you to become in-state if you do not reside in that state to begin with--some states...Ohio and Illinois come immediately to mind...allow you fairly easily to become a resident for tuition purposes. Other states, Kentucky and Indiana being being 2 examples, make it very hard for this to happen.

So, it depends for 1 thing on what school/state you go to--unsure how being international to begin with will change that though (might be a Q for the law school's admissions department?)
