Top Law Schools

Random thought: I was wondering what would be the rank of the top 6 schools, as reported by USWNR, based on prestige of name to the layperson? I'm thinking something like this:

1.) Harvard
2/3.) Tie between Stanford and Yale
4/5.) Tie between Columbia/NYU
6.) Chicago

Any thoughts?

This + NYU and Chicago only have limited regional lay prestige

The average layperson probably thinks both Chicago and NYU are public, state universities. I've seen this happen far too many times with Chicago.

i would argue chicago has a very minimal amount of lay prestige.

Chicago has zero lay prestige, and Columbia's is pretty close to zero outside the NE.

it is the least panty-dropping school in Chicago, which is sad because the student body does not have much else going for it in terms of being able to affect panty movement.

Everything else from here on down is a crapshoot depending on the education and exposure of your layperson. I know people that ARE in law school (tier 1, too) that thought Cornell was top 5.

Chicago = public school in the city, often confused with the University of Illinois in Chicago
NYU = big public NYC school that the Olsen twins go to
UPenn = Penn State (we all know this, though)
Columbia =
a) South America?
b) Oh like in Gossip Girl?
c) (if you're from the midwest) Oh yeah, the one in Chicago?*

UVa probably takes the cake for the least lay prestige in the T14, ever

Berkeley is well known, although I wouldn't call a school that everyone thinks is full of a bunch of douchebag hippies "prestigious"

When I got their pamphlet in the mail when applying to undergrad I just threw it away lol. If I could go back and go anywhere now it would be my first choice.

I think Columbia's prestige is too regional for my list. Same thing with Penn and Berkeley. People on the west coast think that Berkeley is like Harvard, but that reputation doesn't carry. Meanwhile, everyone thinks Georgetown is a top law school, regardless of where you are in the country.

Fair enough. I had no idea Columbia's prestige wasn't nation-wide. Weird because I knew Penn wasn't and I'm from PA.

Berkeley is really well respected in the West. I'm from CO and I would list it similarly
