Top Law Schools

I see in the U.S. News Law School rankings that there are the Top 100 schools and Tier 3 + Tier 4. I got an (edit) and (edit) GPA so I'd love for a Tier 1 but ... naturally, I'd have to consider a Tier 2 school, too. What are considered the Tier 2 schools for 2011? 51-100??? Or what. Thanks

Tier 2 is a relatively meaningless distinction, but mathematically speaking, yes, 51-100 on the USNWR rankings are "tier 2" schools.

Even some higher T1s, like Fordham, are tied to their immediate regions.

Yes. T2, T3 aren't that bad if you don't mind staying in the region.

no... things are really bad in law. Even during the good years in 06-07 schools like upitt/american/case/cinci were sending 10-15% of their class to NJL250 law firms. Now it is more like 5-10%.

There was a person on this forum who counted all the SA positions available at NALP firms in Chicago and found a reduction of SA positions from a high of 9xx positions to a little under 300 SA positions available last year.

if you must go to a T2 law school, choose a school that dominates its respective region.

It depends on the T2/T3 and it depends on the region. Idaho grads have little competition for jobs in Idaho... mostly because it's Idaho. Cardozo grads, by contrast, are screwed right now. After the T14 and Fordham, there are few remaining jobs in NYC. But even in an "uncontested" region like Idaho, it's tough to get a legal job... mostly because there are barely any jobs to be found there in the first place.
