why do some of the T4 schools i see have high (>20%) attrition rates for 1st year students?

Apparently I was wrong, so I leave for posterity nothing but my L.O.-owl.

Because these schools flunk out anyone with a GPA below a certain level. So, for example, in a school with a 2.7 median, they might flunk out everyone with below a 2.0 or a 2.2 or something. I'm not really sure what the true cutoff would be as I do not attend these schools, but generally they are able to cover 10%-15% of the student body. The schools, not the students, recognize that these students will be unemployable and likely will not pass the bar so they need them out of there so the US news numbers do not take a hit down the road. All T4 schools do this, many T3s do it, and probably some T2s.

(1) Low medians means half the class has 2.7's or below, so ppl realize they'll be unemployable.
(2) T4's set ridiculously high bars to keep scholarships, so students lose them and can't afford to keep going.

That is not at all why. People never realize they will be unemployable. The school has to literally tell them. The students always hope for the best. And loans are always freely available to keep going.
