You are a URM. You will get into better and will be looking at some nice schollies.

Both give out quite a bit of money. I go to UMN, and I love it. Really laid back environment (and city), but amazing faculty & cool people. My only concern is the cold to come. :/

TITCR. OP is basically a T14 lock and could get a full ride to better schools than those two.

It's not balls cold there yet? Haha. Any word on the job market for UMN students?

As much as I want this to be true, I'll believe I'm a T14 lock when I get into a T14 school. Hopefully Chicago, but I'll take what I can get.

If you care about schollies and/or prestige you should apply to Yale and any school below it that you would want to go to. Tons of people apply with mixed heritages, there is no real doubt here that you are African American.

I think people overestimate what being a URM does..... I mean that big of a boost? and how is he unsure if he is black? Is he inferring 50/50, cause you would DEFINITELY be checking the box if that is the case

Yes it is. While HYSCCN aren't incredibly likely, they are still definitely possible and worth the application fee. I don't have time to go through all the LSN profiles but here are a few:
Yale 167/3.73
Harvard 160/3.69
Columbia 163/3.6
OP is probably part black, part white and schools will treat that as URM.

No, being a URM gives a person a huge boost. Conventional wisdom (which of course, is not always right) says a black applicant gets a ~10 point boost, as well as some extra leeway on GPA.
OP should apply from Yale on down and should expect to get some hefty schollies at some T10s.

With your LSAT and URM status there is no reason to not blanket T14. At the end of the day you are either going to great school or a very good school with a nice scholarship. Congratulations!

I'm a 1L at Illinois and yes, they are known for being very generous with scholarships. My profs are all brilliant, and the students are real people who can have fun outside of the classroom. Shameless plug: the UIUC student admissions blog on their website tells about life as a 1L at Illinois. A few TLSers are contributors.
Good luck!

I will give a plug for Minnesota as well. Great school, reasonable people, nice city. It is comparable with Illinois both in terms of quality and money. I assume the employment prospects are similar, although the Twin Cities is a better market than Urbana-Champaign, although Illinois has better access to the Chicago market. I think a large part of the choice between these schools comes down to a preference for a college town vs. a city. I got very similar offers from these two schools.
All that being said, if you get credit for being African American you should probably get better offers than either of these schools.

Do you want to work in/around Minnesota? Go to UMN
Do you want to work in/around Illinois? Go to UofI
That aside, your URM status appears to be a game-changer, and I think UofC might be worth whatever you have to pay if you get in there. Either way, you're future looks good at any of those places. Don't fuck it up by doing something stupid, like lying to admissions about being URM if you're technically not. Give adcoms a call if you want. (If you're concerned about anonymity, call schools with whom you have no intention of applying and take the collective advice). They'll help you figure it out.
