Re: Happiest Field of Law
Happiness is subjective. Some people like money and don't mind working themselves to death. Some people would rather have less money and more free time. Actually, some studies have found the happiest group of people in the world are the tribes deep in the Amazon with almost no contact with the outside world. Maybe thats like Plato's cave, idk, but it is really based on your preferences.

Easy; whatever field you work in as a summer associate. SA'ing is the sweetest gig out there. Food, drink, and at some firms women. All with very low expectations with regards to work product.

when people say it's wrong to love money they don't say that people don't love money, they say people shouldn't love money because money is a means not an end and certainly not the ultimate end to achieve, and loving a means to an end is short sighted because you don't focus on the end goal.
even loving boats, TV's, houses, garages, islands are short sighted
the following uses of the term "you" is not YOU, but the general you
materialism in general is short sighted for the same reason as money is. Stuff is a means. You don't value money because it's fun to see a big number on the screen or because large stacks of soiled paper are somehow so awesome. You don't even love money for the stuff it gets you. You don't love a TV because big heavy plastic boxes are awesome, or that lights and sounds coming from them are awesome, you love it because it gives you information, stories, music, news, all that resonate with you. You don't value a lock because it's heavy and made of metal, you value it because it hides secrets, keeps out the undesirables. You don't value a flashy clothes because you look at yourself in the mirror, you value them for the status symbol it projects, and the soothing reassurance that you have a purpose in this world and that you yourself have value.

That doesn't mean that someone is short sighted if they are willing to work harder -- it just means that work is a lower utility cost to them and/or money is a stronger reward. Plus some people do love money for money's sake. It is a convenient measure for how successful you are (in certain aspects) and how much value you have created for others.Borhas wrote:when people say it's wrong to love money they don't say that people don't love money, they say people shouldn't love money because money is a means not an end and certainly not the ultimate end to achieve, and loving a means to an end is short sighted because you don't focus on the end goal.
