I have only been here a couple of weeks, but I will answer anything that I can. I will try to check in and respond to questions periodically over the next week or so.

What are you studying? Which professors are best? What makes Michigan a great law school? What are its strengths?

I considered a lot of schools. I gave serious consideration to Duke, Penn, Texas, and Vanderbilt. I had a pretty sizable scholarship at Vanderbilt and a larger one at Texas. I had smaller scholarships at Michigan, Penn, and Duke.
When I visited Michigan over preview weekend I was really impressed with the classes I observed. People seemed sharper at Michigan, they had good answers, and it was a more intellectually exciting atmosphere than the other schools. It also seemed like a more friendly place than Penn and Duke. I think the assumptions from preview weekend have been pretty accurate.
Right now I'm really happy with my decision. I like Ann Arbor a lot. There's a decent bit of art, music, etc here and I'm shocked at the amount of ethnic food (and people from all over the world). The weather has been great so far (I know the winters will get worse, but because of its so far south and so far from the lakes it shouldn't be as bad as detroit or chicago). The classes have been fun. I've enjoyed the reading and I don't have any crazy paper-chase like professors.

Could you have gone to CCN?
Since you had even small scholarships to schools like VMP

Did you write any supplemental essays when applying? Do you think it helped your chances of getting admitted?

I would love to hear your opinion OP on Michigan vs. Vanderbilt. I'm hoping that I'm lucky enough to be in your same position come spring.
Also, if I'm used to a large city, specifically Atlanta, GA, will Ann Arbor be a culture shock?

I can't speak to the first question, but as to the second, it shouldn't be. Ann Arbor is definitely a college town, but for the most part, whatever you can do in a big city you can find here.

Logan mind telling what schools you were picking between?

How did you like doing the summer start? How is the transition into fall classes, with the rest of your class around?
Since you were hanging out with the ED kids (and may be one yourself) -- how common is it for EDers to get $?

Sorry it took me so long to respond to these. Let me go in order:

I was choosing between comparably ranked schools (Duke, Georgetown, Penn, etc) with decent money and some lower ranked schools with high scholarships. In the end I chose Michigan because I liked the atmosphere, the people were friendly, and the price was right.
I'm very happy so far, but to be honest, I likely would have been happy at most schools. I don't know if I would have been happier anywhere else, but I also know that I'm enjoying things as they are now.

Summer start is great. I highly recommend it as a nice way of easing into law school. The workload isn't light (it's two doctrinal courses plus legal practice, but it's a condensed semester so it's a lot of reading and class every day) but it's manageable. The best part was probably the intimate setting and the opportunity to have the law school all to yourself. It's been a little tough getting back into the swing of things for Fall semester, but that's more a function of the beginning of courses being introductory, at least in my opinion.
I was not ED and don't really discuss scholarships with my friends, so I can't speak to that. Sorry.

I did write a supplemental essay. I have no idea if it helped or not.
I was waitlisted at all of CCN.

I thought they were really both really wonderful places. I found the people at both schools to be far friendlier than the people I met at other schools I visited. Vanderbilt's career services office is pretty large considering how many students are at the school, and I think its a pretty good office. Vanderbilt's LRAP program is nearly worthless, but Michigan's has some serious advantages over the federal plan. Michigan does send more people to the best clerkships, government jobs, firm jobs, and academia. However, I think that people in the middle or bottom of both classes have similar career prospects. Michigan has a better series of course offerings, and better options to take classes outside the law school (Ford School of Public Policy seems to be a common one). I really believe Michigan's students are of a high caliber and that this makes for more interesting class discussion. In the end I didn't feel like I had enough $$ from vanderbilt to go when I had a chance to go to michigan.
I don't think you'll have such a big culture shock. They're are very few black people at UM or in Ann Arbor, there are tons in Atlanta so that is different. There is a pretty strong Asian and Indian cultural base here. I don't really think that there is a whole lot you get in a city of 1 million that you don't get in a city of a 200,000 -- so I doubt culture shock will be to strong. The traffic is better here!

Me and one other guy did a tour of Michigan on Monday, I really liked it. Personally, I think Ann Arbor is a damn busy place, at least near campus.
I have two questions: 1) What do you think is the best part about Michigan Law? 2) Where do you live and what do you think about it?

I don't know what the best part is. So far I've enjoyed classes and the readings. Almost all the students here are fun to be around. I live off campus in a small apartment in a house. I like being close but being able to make my own food and save some money. People in lawyer's club seem happy with their choice as well.
