Top Law Schools

Just looking at the sites of V10 firms it seems that more associates seem to come from Columbia than Harvard. How is this possible? Isn't Harvard considered the superior school?

HLS graduates get clerkships, academia, and other super-selective jobs besides V10.

Why would you think that Harvard is considered the "superior" school as compared to Columbia? Yes, it's higher ranked, but do you honestly think there is that much of a difference?

Doesn't have to be a large difference to be superior - just has to be a difference.

I think about this way, the prestigious firms have a rough number of students they will give offers to from the top schools each year (say 15 from YLS, 30 from HLS, 25 from CLS, etc.). I totally agree that HLS grads have a better shot at academia, prestigious govt positions, and clerkships. But, students from CLS and HLS aren't really competing with one another for the big firm jobs b/c they're in separate categories. This is difft than, say, a student from GW and a student from Vandy applying to a V5 firm, where the firm only gives offers to a limited number of students outside of the core schools it recruits at.
That said, being at CLS is a little more competitive if you're interested in NY b/c a much greater proportion of the students will be interested in NY firm jobs (whereas at HLS students will have wider geographic prefs and a lot of them will be doing DOJ/other govt stuff their 2L summer).

I always assumed HLS was simply the best. Just going off word of mouth.

I always assumed HLS was simply the best. Just going off word of mouth.

It is second-best.. to Yale.
