Does Chicago have the same appeal to the opposite sex? Not even close.
I want to stay in Atlanta to work so I was just curious if going to UChicago would inhibit me from doing that, my pre-law advisor said it could but I just wanted a second opinion.blink wrote:What do you mean by "appeal"?
If you mean rankings, then yes it's more highly ranked than Cornell and Penn, but not as high as Yale, Harvard, and Columbia.
The "I go to UChi Law" pick up line not having much success?megaTTTron wrote:Does Chicago have the same appeal to law law firms? Yes.

whenever people ask where I'm going for school, and I tell them, they have no clue what I'm talking about.Desert Fox wrote:"Dude, that's cool my brother goes to UIC!"mistergoft wrote:The "I go to UChi Law" pick up line not having much success?megaTTTron wrote:Does Chicago have the same appeal to law law firms? He's very very wrong. As someone familiar with the Atlanta market trust me on this. However, I will say that unlike other areas of the country, Chicago won't really do anything special for you that UVA or Duke wouldn't in Atlanta.thedude221 wrote:I want to stay in Atlanta to work so I was just curious if going to UChicago would inhibit me from doing that, my pre-law advisor said it could but I just wanted a second opinion.blink wrote:What do you mean by "appeal"?

Would it be any worse than UVA or Duke? I would have free room and board at Chicago so thats something I have to consider. It's also ranked higher than UVA or Duke so it has that going for it.
I was on Michigan Avenue some weeks ago while the Writing Competition was still going on and attempting to read through the package. A little girl at the next table started coming over and wanted to play. Her mother told her not to bother me with my homework, and I explained it wasn't homework I was working on.miamiman wrote:whenever people ask where I'm going for school, and I tell them, they have no clue what I'm talking about.Desert Fox wrote:"Dude, that's cool my brother goes to UIC!"

Not only does it have the same appeal, but it has more of an appeal than all the Ivies in the lower T14.hiromoto45 wrote:thedude221 wrote:Does UChicago have the same appeal as Ivy League schools?
To those that matter it does.
Yeah, the local strippers love Duke students.Eric475 wrote:Go to Duke for the sex appeal
Ehh Chicago is kind of controversial in Econ, its kind of a divisive/polarizing school.. a lot of economists hate "those chicago guys".KibblesAndVick wrote:Economics majors, ugly girls, and lawyers will all be rightly impressed. lol I suspect UC law students encounter a lot of this, at least when trying to impress undergraduates.Desert Fox wrote:"Dude, that's cool my brother goes to UIC!"mistergoft wrote:The "I go to UChi Law" pick up line not having much success?megaTTTron wrote:Does Chicago have the same appeal to law law firms? Again, cool w it. So long as it nets me gainful employment.dresden doll wrote:I was on Michigan Avenue some weeks ago while the Writing Competition was still going on and attempting to read through the package. The mother asked which law school I went to. After I answered, she said, 'wow, that's really impressive. One of the best law schools in the country. Congrats.'
This to date is the only instance of a layperson knowing about my school.
All that said, don't worry - there isn't a person you'll meet in the legal profession that won't be duly impressed when you tell them where you're going to school. For that matter, a client with my firm was duly impressed some weeks ago when he found out that I go to Chi.
Laypeople are irrelevant anyway. Screw 'em.
Yeah, but they're #1. It's the same as everyone hating the Yankees.tkgrrett wrote:Ehh Chicago is kind of controversial in Econ, its kind of a divisive/polarizing school.. a lot of economists hate "those chicago guys".KibblesAndVick wrote:Economics majors, ugly girls, and lawyers will all be rightly impressed. How did no one acknowledge this sooner? 180.Always Credited wrote:Yeah, the local strippers love Duke students.Eric475 wrote:Go to Duke for the sex appeal
