Top Law Schools

Pro's and con's ?

I live in Austin and went to UT for my undergrad... If you have any questions about the city or the University as a whole I will do my best to answer them.

Those pictures are not very appealing to me

Ditto--I'm a young professional living here, and I know the campus climate pretty well, but not much about the Law School. However, I do know Dean Sager and he is pretty awesome, IMO.

LSAC lists total minority enrollment as 29%.

Of course, it's Austin, so Hispanic is the majority there.

The entire campus (50,000) is 16% hispanic, and it's Texas, so there's a large hispanic population here...

Minority students comprise 36% of the 2007 entering class, and have comprised at least 30% of the entering class for the last five years. Hispanic Business magazine has consistently named us in the top five law schools in the country for Hispanics and has noted that The University of Texas School of Law has produced more Hispanic and African-American graduates combined than any other law school in the United States, with the exception of the historically black colleges such as Howard University.

That's kind of misleading, though. It's like saying there are lots of white people in schools in Highland Park. I don't think it's so much a concerted effort as it is a by-product of the Texas population.

I agree--I'm just quoting the website. LIke I said at first... it's Texas, so yeah, there is kind of a large hispanic population.

So would it best to apply if your a URM ? Do white people stand a chance when maybe a URM has applied with similar gpa and lsat scores ?

URMs always get a boost, period--which means if the have the same LSAT as you, then it is possible they may get in rather than you, but who knows? UT says they have a holistic process.

However, the good thing about UT law is at least 65% of the students are in-state (by law), which bodes well if you live in Texas and have a good score.

The downside is I have heard they don't like their own UT grads (for some reason).

The only reason i can see me attending would be the networking some people hear of your studys at UT and are drooling at the mouth . only reason but i do see how i could get just the opposite affect from some.

OP, none of these questions make any difference until you tell us what your "pretty good" GPA is and have an LSAT score.

I have a 3.7 gpa major animal science - reproduction physiology have yet to take the lsat just trying to see where i could possibly be accepted. Im 20 right now but when i do graduate and able to apply for law school i will have been 21 for about a week . so im head for my age but behind in the application pools and lsat

It's way too early to be thinking about it. It's absolutely impossible to tell where you can go without an LSAT. It's the single biggest factor in admissions.

Ok. Have you checked out websites like http://www.lawschoolnumbers.com and http://www.lawschoolpredictor.com? These will give you an idea of what you need to make in order to get in to these law schools.

Also, please try to make more sense when you type on the forums--I'm having a hard time trying to understand what you're saying. It's just helpful if you want advice.

Secondly, take an LSAT diagnostic and actually sign up to take the test. Then you'll have a more clear idea of where to start. This forum is extremely helpful, but you should do some of your own research first--looking at the main ranking site and reading about each of these schools is a start. I wouldn't begin your search by posting threads and asking general questions about schools when there's a lot of information already provided on the site.

Thirdly, good luck when you are doing your research. You'll need around a 166 or 167 to have a shot at UT.
