It is difficult to offer solid advice because obtaining employment at a NYC law firm from either school is a bit of a challenge. If you base your decision on personal reasons, then you are much better suited at making this decision. UCLA is a higher ranked law school in a more dynamic setting, but it is not known for producing NYC lawyers.

transfers don't get $$

and OP probably has a better shot at nyc right now being top 10-20% at wustl than being median at fordham

I didn't know transfers weren't allowed to get any money. Interesting, thanks.u

Not true. Some do get money, depending on the school.

Lol. This thread reminds me of the ASD at WashU this year. I loved WashU, don't get me wrong, but when I told one of the students working at the ASD gathering I had gotten into UCLA, she said, "Omigod, why are you here?"

If you want NYC I think you should stay. Even though it is a long shot either way, I would expect top grades at WUSTL has a stronger chance than "median" at UCLA.

OP are you on a journal at Wash U? If you want NYC, neither WashU nor UCLA can get you there without you having to do significant work (networking, resume drops, various off campus recruiting stuff). If you want Cali, then UCLA is the way to go. But for NYC, you are better off sticking it out at WashU and using your connections with professors etc to find a job.

Also, not sure why its stated so often as a fact that transfer students are treated like median students at their new schools

good luck with the rest of your transfer apps

If both UCLA and Wash U aren't the best schools for placement in NYC, aren't I better off at a school with a connection to at least one of the coasts?

I will make sure I'm not at the median, no matter where I transfer.
Thanks for your comments!

Nik
depends on which coast. West Coast = UCLA, East Coast = WashU might be a better call by a small margine b/c of the journal + connections with professors etc.

I was not talking about your performance at UCLA. I was referring to the notion that transfer students are treated like median students at the higher ranked schools by the employers
