Which would you decide, and why?

Camden has 5k scholly and in-state tuition (paying $16,486)
Nova probably got nothing(paying $34,860)

I think they're pretty close to being peer schools.
Isn't Nova pretty pricey? (I just looked on this site...) It looks like you'll be paying twice as much for Villanova. I don't think it's worth it.
Therefore, all other things being equal, I'd say Camden.

OP, personally, I would go to 'Nova. Much better area and campus and better access into Philly.

But then again, I'm not exactly sure of the cost differences. Even still I'd prob choose 'Nova though

OP: Where do you want to practice? For south jersey/philly, save your money and go to RU. Both schools have about the same prospects for employment and seem to have similar student bodies and professors. If you want to venture out of that area, Nova might have a bit more name recognition but I don't think its worth the added tuition. I'd lean heavily towards RU unless you find a persuasive reason to go to Nova.

This is not true. Maybe for South Jers, but not for Philly. Nova def places better (more easily) into Philly.

But if the tuition really is double, then it's a tough choice, and maybe R would be smarter

Having looked at both schools exhaustingly, the previous posters pretty much summed it up: If tuition is your concern have a nice time in Camden. Nova seems to have better placement in Philly (not excellent, just better). Have you visited both schools? If your primary concern is tuition, then go Rutgers all the way. Neither is gonna kick the door down for you.

Rutgers. There is NO difference between Temple, Rutgers, and Villanova. So go wherever is cheapest. If money is no object, go where you like. Villanova is very conservative. Temple is more liberal. I don't know anything personally about Rutgers, but you can live in Philly and take the PATCO.

I'm a Temple Law grad and Villanova undergrad FYI. Rutgers has a (very) slight edge if you want to practice in New Jersey. Temple / Nova are a little (tiny) better if you want to practice in Philly or the Philly 'burbs. Most of us, like me, end up taking the PA / NJ bar so it doesn't really matter. About 30% of my practice is in North Jersey, even though I'm Philly based.

When you're considering Rutgers, Nova, and Temple, the big difference maker is debt. They're all regarded as good local Philly schools.

I still would choose 'nova, since I wouldn't want to stay in south jers, and I know philly respects nova a lot more than rutgers (I've worked with a buncha philly lawyers)

Where are you getting this information? Philly (as though Philly were a separate entity in and of itself -- must of us Philly lawyers practice in Philly, the counties of Philly, and South Jersey anyway) respects "Nova" a lot more than Rutgers? For the extra $50k, those lawyers can keep their "respect." The fact of the matter is they're all T2 schools and recognized as "good" but "not as good as UPenn". The same law is taught at Temple, Nova, and Rutgers, and the kids are the same caliber. There are graduates of all the local schools all over Philly and the area -- including Widener. The only advantage you get from 'Nova is maybe if you're interviewing with a 'Nova alum, basketball fan or something. I can't think of anyone whose hired and said "Well, all things were equal (they never are in reality), so we went with the guy from 'Nova over the guy from Rutgers / Temple. 'Nova is way more respectable." (I would give a billion extra credit points to anyone who follows Temple / MAC football).

I would go wherever is cheapest. A little conjecture... I was talking to a close friend of mine from Temple the other day, and he said if he could do it all over again he would have went to Rutgers instead of TU because he would have gotten in state tuition at Rutgers. The difference between the degrees is negligible -- at the time he chose Temple because he thought it was more "prestigious" since it was ranked higher. He works in North Jersey now, BTW.

But hey it's your money, spend it on whatever you want. If living on the main line has value to you that is worth the price tag, then go to 'Nova. The campus is beautiful. I hear they just built a new law school building, too. The old one was terrible. But if you think 'Nova grads have a leg up on Temple or Rutgers grads in Philly, I completely disagree.
