Any good T3 or T4 schools? Forum

Northeastern, Suffolk, University of St. Thomas (Minnesota), and FIU are all pretty good.

FIU is nowhere near good. The only plus for FIU is cheap tuition. It places in a region dominated by UF and Miami (plus whatever T13-ish grads want jobs there). The marker is glutted with those schools, plus Nova. Cost of living in the area is high. Big law is pretty much out. According to a couple FIU posters on TLS, the top of the class can compete for small firm jobs paying $60,000-ish or government. 1 or 2 FIU TLS posters are trying their damndest to transfer out. At least if you graduate marginally employed you will have less debt than.

Like Stetson, FIU is not good.

Duquesne University enjoys a very good regional reputation, and minimal competition. You'll more or less be limited to Pittsburgh/Western PA, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

For instance, Temple in Philly places decently in that city (though not in central PA where Penn State places better or MD where Maryland places, etc.

Temple is also a T2, and places roughly 15% into BigLaw.

hi, im the OP. i am just trying to be realistic based on the gpa/lsat i have now. my gpa took a hit due to personal reasons, but its pointless to talk about, so I was thinking about a law school i have a very good reaslistic chance of getting into. I just need "I am not ashamed of my daddy or bring friends to my house" money, and not "BIGLAW" money.

I have a 2.88/158 now. I had 160s in practice, so i think i underperformed and am hopeful that i can get 165 or more by october or 160 worst case. if i do get that 160 worse case, due to my gpa, i might have to look into t3 or t4.

my goal is something like st. louis university which seems to feed well into decent firms in sant louis where i live. i guess i need a 165 with my gpa to get in there?

if i dont increase to 165 or more i was looking for some T3 or T4 schools that still do relatively well in their region. like an earlier poster was saying about the T3 in houston doing well from feeding firms locally.

The issue that you run into with t3/t4 schools is debt. FWIW, I would never advise someone to attend a private school in these tiers at full price -- though you could end up making a respectable salary, recouping costs could take decades. If you're getting in-state tuition or a nice scholarship, that's a better situation to be in and there's certainly a case to be made.

Drake seems to have a really good reputation in Iowa...although I'm sure that's it. I know it does very well In DES moines (state capital)

places like maine, montana, idaho, hawaii etc are solid options if you are from any of those places. they are their states only schools

Haha yes sir. I'm from Philadephia, want to practice here, and am attending a T2 Philly school... there's a noticeable difference between T3/T4 and Villanova or Temple, at least imo. Just had to defend my home turf

On top of that they are in tertiary legal markets that are not known for drawing grads of other, high ranked schools.

Not sure about Univ. of St. Thomas (MN). The school may become a great school, but it is too young (became accredited a few years ago) and does not place well in hiring, especially because there are no St. Thomas alums that are partners yet.

I've heard good things about Northeastern.

Maybe he confused St. Thomas with William Mitchell (Both MN schools located near each other). William Mitchell seems to do OK.

The only good T3 or T4 law school is one that gives the student a full tuition scholarship AND is in the market the student plans to work immediately after law school.

However, like any rule there are exceptions, including but not limited to Cooley, which regardless of the scholarship is questionable.

Yea WM does okay in the twin cities area....I was under the impression it's a low T2 tho. St Thomas, tho......they are very very Catholic. Urban legend is that they'll reject applicants who state that they're gay in their PS.

WM is 98 ranked or so (T2).

A lot of these schools are OK for people who want to keep costs low and get into public sector law (in-state at places like Arkansas, Maine, Texas Tech). Paying full private-school tuition for a T3/4 is pretty much never advisable.
