What to do (160/3.17)?

So I took my first LSAT in June and got a 160 my undergrad degree is from a state university in Anthropology. I have worked several years since undergrad as an archaeologist numerous technical reports/publications. I am not happy with my law school options based on what LSP predicts so I am thinking I will apply to several "safety" school I wouldn't mind going to (Rutgers-Newark part time, U-Conn Part time, Penn State part time, and Vermont full time) when apps come out and then retake the LSAT, hopefully being able to up my score closer to 170. Then re-evaluate what are now really REACH schools in which I would like to attend. I figure there's no point in being stingy with applications/money. Does this seem like a good way to go or am I just being overly pesimistic in my chances.

Also are there any east coast schools I am overlooking as "safeties"

Judging from the lack of response and no forget about law school replies, I guess I am going in the right direction.

Right direction, might be good to take it even further:
Retake the LSAT and prepare rigorously for it, if not satisfied retake it a third time. Basically schools are only going to take your highest so take every chance you get at the most important part of your application (especially considering your GPA).

Yeah, I am planning on taking a prep course. I just tanked on the LG section in June if that hadn't happened 170 would have been a real possibility. So with the most learn-able section being my weakest I figure there is no reason I shouldn't improve significantly with a little more of a focused study plan. Thanks

Retake. I got a 160 on the June 2010 LSAT, too. I'm not upset about it or anything, but I'm retaking because I know I can do better.
You want to stay out east, I take it? If not, consider USF or McGeorge, if you're keen on California. Plus, Oregon would probably take you with a 160 on the LSAT and a 3.17 UGPA.

I would definitely check out UMaine with those numbers. It may be third-tier now, but I've heard it has excellent placement in Maine and if you're from any New England state besides CT, you get reduced tuition.
Of course this presumes you'd be fine living / working in Maine after grad for at least a few years
