For Southern Cali/Pheonix legal markets, which school is better ? Arizona State or Arizona?

Arizona has a larger, more entrenched alumni network in the SoCal and Phoenix markets. ASU students, however, only compete with other ASU students for non-summer intern/externships in the Phoenix-Metro area.

For Phoenix, UA hands down; it's a stronger program with a better reputation and more portability.

However, ITE if you are die-hard SoCal, I'd suggest you target CA schools which primarily feed into that market.

Excluding T14 schools:

Phoenix: ASU > UA

Southern California: UCLA, USC, UC Davis, UC Hastings, Loyola, Pepperdine, USD > UA

Bottom line, if you don't go to a T14 and want to work in Southern California, go to a Southern California school or at least a California school. If you want to work in Phoenix, ASU and UA are both excellent choices and are roughly even. I'd give the slight edge to ASU because of its location in the Phoenix metro area as opposed to UA which is 100+ miles away in Tucson.

Portability is sort of limited to the home region of the law school unless you go to a top 20 or 25 school. Southern California is not UA's home region and UA isn't a top 20 or 25 school.

Wow, there was a whole tread on this, search for it, I am too lazy. Consensus is that for AZ they are =, go wherever gives you most $ (TBF, this seems credited based on my covos with AZ attorneys). If neither gives you more money, go to ASU, the girls are ridiculously hot there. The top 5-15% (depending on tons of factors) at U of A has a shot at SoCal biglaw. If you want to work in SoCal, go to school in SoCal.

You really need to contact both law schools' placement offices to see if there is any significant difference in Southern California placement. My best guess is that class rank in the top 20% or better from either school will open the same doors.
