Want to practice in Miami area. I have heard UF and FSU are very viable options as well espcically considering UF in ranked higher. But for big law in MIA, is UM the best option?

UMiami or UF only. FSU is not a good idea.

UF is roughly equal to UM (good amounts of UF and UM grads). I'd go to UF though, because it's cheaper, and to hedge my bets just in case Miami doesn't work out. UM isn't worth anywhere close to sticker.

If cost wasnt an issue, (with my numbers I think Ican receive big $$$) what would be the pick UF or UM?

If you could go to both for free, I'd choose UF. Better portability in the state.
Do you have Miami connections, by the way?

The first four associates I checked graduated from UM or UF. Where are you seeing info about incoming associates?

I go to University of Miami School of Law - long story short, avoid it. Go to UF or even FSU before UM.

I'm curious to know why you don't like UM. I was accepted, but decided not to go.

Uh, there is nowhere NEAR that amount of summer associates.
The Summer Associates for 2010 are:
MIAMI OFFICE:
UVA-2
Penn-1
Notre Dame-1
Duke-1
TAMPA OFFICE:
FSU-1
W&L-1
UF-1
Emory-1
BU-1
Northwestern-1
BC-1
ORLANDO OFFICE:
UF-1
Zero summer associates from Miami. Don't go to the U at sticker.

I didn't say current associates; I said summer associates. That is to say, the people they intend to make offers to in the fall. The hiring landscape in miami has been completely fucked by ITE. Stearns Weaver, from what I understand, took not one kid summer associate from a Florida school.
For the record, firm-wide:
Miami: UVA 2, Duke 1, Notre Dame 1
Tampa: BC 1, BU 1, Emory 1, Florida 1, Florida State 1, Northwestern 1, W&L 1
Orlando: Florida 1
EDIT: you should also know that the ND girl's father is a named partner at a major miami firm. executive summary: stay the fuck away from florida schools if you want a biglaw job in miami.

Trialjunky, please do not attend Miami. Go to UF and, at the very least, spare your wallet.

I've known students out of UMiami that have had good careers in Holland & Knight and Greenberg Traurig. If you want to practice in Miami and you get $$ from the school, Go to UMiami and network with local attorneys. The Miami network is huge. It is difficult to network in Miami when you are in Gainesville. If you want to work in any other part of the state, go to UF.

Carlton's done well ITE. That their incoming summer associate class would double the size of SullCrom's is unsurprising.

I was surprised at the number of lower T1 SAs at the Tampa office. But i suppose it's smaller than Miami so the discrepancy isn't that crazy. I'm pretty unfamiliar w/ carlton tho.

Regional AmLaw 200. A player in SoFla though.

Absolutely love the city, connections in successful firms (not legal firms but firms which interact with top lawyers regularly), very close friends in the area, boyfriend is from there and intends to return as well. I am looking in other areas to practice, as well, but I am applying seriously to schools in areas I am considering. Miami being one. I am also scoring above their median LSAT in my PTs so I am hoping to get some $$.
