Vandy v. UCLA

Vandy or UCLA? I do not have a preference as to where in the country I would like to work. I also will be paying sticker at both so a high paying job coming out of school will be important. Additionally, I have always gone to small schools and I tend to well in that environment so Vandy may have the advantage on that front.

I will be attending one of these schools next year.

The bolded pretty much sealed the deal for Vandy. UCLA doesn't do very well in placing it's graduates outside of LA; Vandy does well with placing it's grads in Atlanta, Tennessee, NYC, DC, Chicago, and Florida.

From what I remember Vanderbilt actually beats Georgetown in BigLaw placement, and generally just kicks ass all over the South.

Sticker at Vandy = (~45k tuition/year * 3 years) + (~18k COL/year * 3 years) = ~$189,000 in debt after three years (not including tuition/COL increases).

Monthly Loan Payment: $2,194.45 over 10 yrs at 7%

What kind of job do you plan on getting?

The 18k COL is a non issue and I will not be taking out loans for that amount.

In terms of jobs, I am not sure yet. Certainly my job opportunities will be circumscribed by the loans I will be repaying.

I was being slightly sarcastic. Regardless, if $54,000 is a non-issue than you are probably in a financial position to not worry about price. Given your criteria, go to Vandy, do well, profit.

One crisis does not make for a failed state.

However, bankruptcy does.

Obviously you've not seen the death spiral the CA real estate market's been in since Lehman imploded.

LOL.

Anyways, Vandy has very special ties to CA for some reason (I was recruited from there and did my interview on campus there). Vandy actually has pretty good placement in CA. I met a lot of Vandy grads when I worked as a paralegal in LA. Very surprising. That said, I'd go to Vandy. My best friend goes to UCLA and if she wasn't in the critical race theory program she would transfer. COL is Westwood is ridiculous. I know you say it doesn't matter, but no sense in wasting money that would go twice as far in Nashville at a peer school.
