Are any incoming 1L's at Tulane worried how the oil spill will effect that quality of life or reputation of the school?

Somewhat ironically, the oil spill has actually helped protect the reputation of Tulane.

I was under the impression that the oil spill would lead to a bigger market for oil&gas and environmental attorneys.
Why do you think it will adversely affect Tulane or its reputation?

The oil spill, no. But I do think their shameless GPA-boosting will affect their reputation.

well, for one, you're looking at a glut of legal work for the next umpteen years in Tulane's home city. Of course, Tulane places a great many graduates in firms in the city, so I'd expect it to have a positive effect on Tulane's placement numbers.

You all have good points. I was worried that it wouldn't be as attractive to students (for next year's cycle) because of concern over how the spill would effect the quality of life in New Orleans. However, maybe the city isn't being effected.

I think this pales in comparison to the effect Katrina had there, and Tulane seemed to make it through that just fine. In fact, the oil spill may lead to some new PI/clinical opportunities in the area.

Tulane has a great Environmental Law program and clinic- if anything, this will help them

if President Obama keeps this drilling moratorium in effect I think I would me more worried about the economic impact of drilling companies canceling their contracts and moving else where. A lot of money from oil flows through the state, especially in terms of tax dollars; however, since Tulane is private it should be insulated against budget cuts. The problem is if he keeps the drilling moratorium in place, who knows how far the economic effects will trickle.
