I don't believe the rankings matter that much between the 2. If you don't mind working in NJ I would say Rutgers. In NY St. John's is behind T14's and other regional schools (Fordham, Brooklyn, etc), not to mention the fact that NY draws a lot of people from a lot of schools.

I think Rutgers is the stronger school if you are ok working in NJ. It's much cheaper for similar to better job prospects since Rutgers places so well into NJ and its possible to get to NYC also while both schools face similar competition in NYC.

thanks for the replies. i definitely would like to work in nyc, who doesnt. i think the rutgers name is better. its more well known and what not. i guess its the best school in its state? compared to st. johns which competes with so many better schools in its state its probably a better deal all around. and if the st. johns name isnt going to help me any more in the ny job market than i guess rutgers seems like the way to go.

Rutgers hands down. The ranking difference is meaningless, Rutgers has a better reputation and gives you the option of NJ which is much less competitive than NY. Rutgers may even be better in NY than St John's, at the worst they're equal.

Rutgers is just as good and cheaper. Since job prospects aren't awesome from either, definitely definitely definitely go to Rutgers Newark.

As someone who lives in the NYC metro area- I'd say Rutgers wins.
