As a Yale 0L, I would generally agree with this assessment. Some Caribbean
medical schools are less prestigious than YLS, but you are largely correct.

I would consider Yale law more prestigious for the practice of law, and almost any med school more prestigious for the practice of medicine.

With ObamaCare, why would you want to go into medicine? With all the litigation its going to bring, I would assert that there will be plenty of money in law, especially medical law in the near future.

That's what I’m talking 'bout. Though I’m actually a partial fan of 'ObamaCare'- if I do ever get into law school my chosen field will be health law.

Yeup . . . because everyone is a fan of ObamaCare, no one sees things differently.

When Medicare goes bankrupt, you bet I'll be filing suit. I will have been paying into it for 21 years at that point (assuming it does go tits up in 2024, like most say it will).

Think about all the future implications of ObamaCare, especially on the wealthy, who have money to throw at us future attorneys, and probably just want a fat check from Uncle Sam to prove a point.

I have a friend that is a 2L at Harvard and want's badly to be a dentist. He said there were ZERO BigDental firms at OCI. Of course he chose Harvard Law over a full ride at some TTT Dental school, but he thinks he made a huge mistake.

ITE, you absolutely need to have that dental/med school boxed check if you want anything close to BigDental.

I'm going to go ahead and let the idiot who created this thread know that I'm mocking him with a carefully selected emoticon.

Dental School >all.

My relative went to an average state dental school.
250k in loans.
Finished medium in class.

Already has 100k job lined up for year after residency, and she only has to work 40 hours a week.

100k for 40 hours a week =golden. (and oh, based on number of clients, she could possibly earn commission on top of 100k).

And, within ten years, like many dentists, she will probably be able to make 160k + working 32 hours a week.

I'm sorry, but Dental profession is full of WIN.

I'm surprised so many of the dumb ass investment banker wannabees go to law. I mean if you want to make serious bank become a dentist and start your own practice. At least that's what I would have done if money was my main concern.

They strictly limit the supply of dentists and they seem to avoid competing on price. Seems like most of them make close to 200k and work 30 hour weeks. I don't think you could find a single lawyer in the whole country with a life like that.

This "logic" escapes me. When Medicare goes bankrupt, the federal government will be bankrupt, and there will be 'nobody' to sue.

word. my guy is 48 years old, works Mon-Thurs 9am to 430pm, only dentist in his practice, and told me he clears -CLEARS- right at $200k/year.

Sure, for someone who does not care what they do at all and wants $$, these are safer than a JD becuase the barriers to entry are higher (most cannot hack the science requirements, while more college grads can grind out a 3.x GPA and 15x LSAT) and there is not a massive oversupply of grads for these positions (unlike the ~45,000 JDs/year for ~30,000 jobs/year).

So yes, if you are satisfied with a future of counseling obese Americans in medical gowns, staring into people's dirty mouths or supervising people at a Walgreens, Doctor, Dentist or Pharm are safer career choices than a JD.

But for someone who would rather spend their time advocating on behalf of a cause or doing research, basically for someone who wants to be a lawyer for reasons besides the slim chance of a biglaw salary, I think a T17 JD or a strong regional JD >>> pretending to be happy doing something else. Below that, the job prospects might be such that one should hesitate.

No...first off, dental school isn't that hard to get into. You take some weird dental entrance exam and the admissions requirements are much lower than that of medical school. I don't think getting into a decent medical school is THAT hard to get into, with a 3.7 GPA and 31 MCAT or higher. A 31 MCAT or higher is like getting a 1400+ equivalent on the SAT...it's good, but not that good. The MCAT is only 4 hours long right now too. (It used to be 8 or something like that.) A 3.7 is hard to get depending on what you major you are. You can major in history though and just take the pre-med prereqs and manage a 3.7, and biology isn't that hard. Chem, engineering, physics, and math are definitely harder. Just avoid those subjects and do an easy major.

No offense the OP, but this is a stupid thread. Law and medicine are drastically different professions. If you really want to be a doctor, then you're better off at Ross University or some no-name osteopathic school than Yale Law. Conversely, if you really want to be a lawyer and have no interest in medicine, a TTT law school will get you where you want to be better than Case Medical School (yeah, I threw in Case Med) or any med school for that matter.
