Changes in Specialty rankings

Post by m1stert1m » Thu Apr 15, 2010 12:11 am

I noticed some changes in the specialty rankings at schools I am interested in. DePaul, while losing ground overall, held pretty steady in the IP and Health law rankings. C-K plummeted from I think 4th to 23rd in IP, and Chapman, while moving up from T3 to 93rd, dropped out of the top tax programs. I am confused.

I will help you.

Rankings= super important.

Speciality rankings= almost irrelevant.

The two are not related in any way, thus a school could lose its reputation as having a good speciality but still move up in the rankings, and vice versa.

Just to give you a bump and clarify:

If you are picking among those schools, I would be a lot more concerned about overall rank than speciality.

Also, don't just look at this and last years ranks.

Here's 2000-2008: http://www.prelawhandbook.com/law_schoo ... 00_present

Thatll give you a better sense of where the school is usually ranked.

If I were you I would take location+cost+rank into consideration when making your choice.
(this is what most people/experts reccomend).

Remember for location that law schools are very regional and that there is an extremely high chance that you will practice in the state you go to law school in.

GL!

Thanks for the info! Im trying not to put too much weight into specialty, especially since I'm not 100% sold on a specific one. I just thought it was odd that a place like C-K that is really focused on IP since it is affiliated with IIT could drop so far in one year. I guess it all seems to balance out in the end though. My choice pretty much comes down to going to Chicago (a place I have lived before and loved) vs. CA (a place I have never lived but wouldn't mind exploring) Thanks again for your replies.

where did you see the info for specialty rankings? I'd love to see this year's tax law turnout.

EDIT: Got 'em, and I am sa-tis-fiiied. :D
