In at both, not sure what exactly I want to practice in later. Which is a better school, and which will give me a more enriching experience?

Difficult to answer either of these. Ohio state is ranked higher, but American is in dc and will probably surround you with a more diverse group of students with a more diverse group of interests and experiences.
