I'm going to go for UVA.

So I posted here months ago about where a 3.2 and 171 would get me. After last summer's/semester's classes (now I'm done with UG), I am sitting nice at a 3.36 right now. I retook the LSATs and scored a 174. As a resident of VA, do you think I have a solid chance at UVA? I'll have my CPA license and about 18 months of work experience. I'm seeking to start 2011-2012. Any thoughts?

No, but it's almost an auto-admit. He'll most likely get in without ED.

Agreed. If OP is 100% positive about UVa, then ED is the right way to go, because it's pretty much guaranteed, but I think OP has a great chance of getting in w/o ED, which would allow OP to try for other schools....

Definitely in ED, probably in RD as well, given your residency. If UVA retains the March ED deadline, it might be smart to apply RD initially and change at the last minute if they don't make a decision. If you get admitted through RD you'll have a better chance at a scholarship. Your GPA will count against you, but hopefully they'll be in need of VA residents with outstanding LSAT scores.

The only issue is, who do I root for in November now.

One thing to keep in mind is that ED will get you a response within 15 days, and if you RD you likely won't hear from UVA until January (UVA only starts issuing responses to RD apps in December, and most are issued in January and February). If you want your cycle wrapped up quick and you really wanna go to UVA, EDing can help give you an answer that much sooner.

Will 3.3/174 with residency get him money? That might be a reason to hold off on EDing.

Hah, I am always curious to see how that works out. (not just for UVA/VT but for Cal/Stanford, UCLA/USC, etc.) Let us know
That said, go hoos!

So UVA seems like a slight reach. Any ivies that like higher LSATs than GPAs that I might have any sort of chance of getting acceptance? How about other Top 25 schools? I'm planning on looking at Southern Cal, Boston College, Notre Dame, and UGA. My far back ups would be George Mason and Richmond. Although I hear George Mason is rapidly becoming a solid school.
