Yes, they are. Within the next 300 years, they should hit #2 at least once

I don't know if I'd say "slipping," but I might say "in decline."

yale will become a figment of our imagination? a shining banner that cannot in reality be reached?

To be fair, Yale has already achieved this.

They're certainly at risk of it, but they still have time to admit me.

Don't they have a fair number of faculty who are going to retire in the next 15 years or so? Granted, they've got the resources to replace them, but you never know.

Out with the old, in with the new.

Unless that new hotshit recruit fall on his/her head.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arming_America.
Still with an endmowment of some absurd amount like 2 million per student, they ought to be able to make a ton of offers people can't refuse.
Edit:
To provide some context, at the time UCLA was running a senior level search to find someone to do early American history given the retirement of Gary Nash and the impending retirement of Joyce
Appleby (both really big names in the field). They were very close to offering Bellesiles the job when the articles about his...errrr creative research methods...hit the press.
Doing senior level hiring is tough even when you have the resources. If you want one of the top 5 people in some particular field it's likely that most of them have jobs they like and it may be difficult to get any of them to move even at a higher salary.
And things you can't control can turn a good job into a crappy one. For example some faculties wind up having terrible infighting and potential profs may not want to be part of that even at a great salary.
I guess my point is: people seem to have this idea that somewhere it is written in stone that schools like Yale will stay where they are. Given how LONG academics tend to work in the field, sudden changes are unlikely, but even great institutions with fantastic resources can wind up having trouble finding and retaining the same quality of faculty they have had in the past.

Yes, Yale's slipping. Don't touch it, even with a 7 foot pole. Fair warning, anyone who gets into Yale will regret it for the rest of time.

Let's be perfectly honest. If Harvard just took the top 200 people in it's class every year, they'd have medians of like 176 and 3.95.
Yale is a declining TTT. Mostly because all their good professors boalt for Harvard anyway. STTTanford is a joke, I mean 170 median? Come on.

Blatant BoalTTT trolling.
TBF, STTTanford's median is 171. Come on.

Laughable, down with the ranks of NYU and Chicago. What joke of a school is going to be ranked in the T3 next, DuKKKe?

TBF, you got into SUNY-Greenwich Village and UIUC but not SLS (yet), so they must be doing something right in Palo Alto.
