Only flame's you'll be feeling are CHicago's TTT job prospects. That is assuming, of course, you make it out alive with some semblance of people skills and humanity intact.

To be fair, NYU's 5-mile radius is a lot more fun than Chicago's.

Also, I'd never be in this awesome position, but if I were, I'd pick NYU. Difference in job prospects is probably not all that significant, and Chicago just gives off kind of a miserable vibe.

NYU. The city's much more international. Also, I feel safe in 90% of NYC whereas it seems most of south side Chicago is off limits to cracker-ass whitefolk like myself.

If you want to pactice in Chicago, go to Chicago, if you want to practice in NYC, NYU, anywhere else, go where you like best. I can't believe this still needs to be said.

There were two shootings within a couple blocks of the law school within the past few weeks. You will be lucky to make it out of UChicago alive period

For NYC, NYU
For Chicago...Chicago
For clerkships/academia, Chicago
For PI, NYU
I'd say Chicago has a slight edge in private firm placement in the nation overall (partly due to much smaller class size, which really does help), but if you do well you're going to have roughly the same prospects at either.
FWIW, I chose NYU.
edit: and as petty as it may be, I actually was a bit worried about living in Hyde Park. I'm glad to be in the very safe West Village.

+the internet, can we stop asking this question now?
Also, the answer is exactly the same for Columbia v Chicago, except that Chicago's clerkship/academia edge is slightly less, and Columbia's PI edge is slightly less.

disregarding the question of LRAP, is chicago really that much worse for PI?

Chicago is a great school. I really doubt a PI employer is going to look at a Chicago student and say "oh, no..." But, environment and resources are a big factor (connections, etc., as well as going to a school with a reputation for sending kids into PI, so if you've got a lot of alum hiring, then the pipeline is in place to hire your students for PI). At NYU, I think something like 8% do PI, whereas at Chicago it's like 2-3%. Take into account the difference in class-size (NYU is roughly twice as large as Chicago) and the fact that NYU basically has the best PI resources around (we host the PILC Fair, have a fantastic office, encourage PI through summer funding, etc.) and you get the point.
I can see someone with multiple interests (say, in PI and firm) going to Chicago maybe, but for someone solely focused on PI, this seems like a no-brainer (not even taking into account the LRAP, which favors NYU as well).
