Top Law Schools

In another post (actually many) people seem to think that when former students don't report their (un)employment stats its because they're working at Starbucks or McDonald's.

What is this belief based on?

My UG asked me for my employment status last year and I simply "forgot" (read: was too lazy) to fill it out, though I was definitely employed.

Is the lack of reply to mean the belief is based on nothing?

The belief that the worst case scenario is probably close to the actual truth.

So its just guarded pessimism?

Anecdotal evidence by TLS users, some with very good jobs reported being hounded by their law schools to report their job data, while others w/ no job or poorly paying jobs report being notified once (ish) by something like snail mail; apparently the CDO or law schools generally already have an idea of what kind of jobs their new alums have and they pursue the reporting info accordingly. The implication is that because schools know it is in their best interest to have only their high paid alumni report, as opposed to having 100% reporting which would lower their median salary data; that this is precisely what they do. Plus a Median isn't a Mean even though law schools represent it as such.

Now that makes more sense!

Are CSOs hounding the grads with good jobs or high GPAs? I'm wondering how they'd know about the job offers.

I've seen a new ITE strategy where law schools report 2007-09 data lumped together.

Yeah, it immediately raises eyebrows... as does a hefty portion of grads working in "business and industry."

Just looked at HLS' website. They report 2007 stats. TTT.

Oh, I wouldn't know. I knew I would not be gunning for Harvard with my numbers, so I didn't check out their employment stats. Sidenote: even if I did apply, I still probably wouldn't have looked at their employment info, as I assume they could just say "awesome" and it would suffice.

Anyway, most of the schools I applied to had 2008 data and now are making 2009 info available.

I'm not going for Harvard either...not even close.

Most schools I've looked at use 2008 and 2009 as well.
