Trying to figure our how far from my top choice I can live (real estate prices :( ) and reasonably commute considering the demands of 1L. How long do you plan on your commute to law school being?

That many of you plan on travelling over 45 minutes one way! Do you plan on participating in after school crap?

After living withing a 10-15 minute commute throughout most of my schooling/jobs, last year I decided to move 40 miles away from my job.

Sometimes I would drive (I reverse commuted out of a big city, so the traffic wasn't too bad), other times I'd take the train. All in all, it took between 45 minutes and an hour from when I walked out of my door to when I got to work.

I will not do it again.

Edit: My goal is to live within a short walking distance to campus (on-campus housing if it's not outrageous), or under a 10 minute drive. Every little bit helps...plus I want a dog.

Considering how much time i'll be spending in the law school/in the library, I want a commute under 20. The added stress of a long commute is just not something I want to deal with, and I'm young and single and will probably hang out with the other students.

I put 30-45 minutes but that is on the upper end of what is possible. I think 30 minutes is entirely doable. I plan to treat school like a full time job. Get there by 8 or 9 and not leave until dinner (or later if I have extra work). 30 minutes to clear my head driving seems ok, provided it isn't 30 minutes of bumper to bumper.

Hmm, I would like to keep it under 20 minutes, but I foresee it being 30ish :(

I take BART to school, and I live at the absolute end of the line. The train ride is about 50 minutes, travel to or from the station is about 10 minutes, so total commute time is about 1:15 door to door.

Hoping for as short as possible, but have no idea really.

To those who "unwind" in the car: if you lived 5 minutes away instead of 30, would you sit in the driveway for 25 minutes once you got home?
