Is BU worth sticker?

I have yet to receive any merit aid (not really expecting any), and I am submitting my need based aid as soon as my parents get their stuff back from the accountant. So for sake of this thread lets assume they give me ziltch. Is BU worth sticker? I have yet to visit, so obivously that could change my opinion. But just wondering what others think, I personally do not believe it is. However, if I could leave there with around 100K in debt then I would prolly pull the trigger and go.

Compared to what other offers?

On it's own basis. I have no debt currently and I am not going to dig myself into a financial hole on a poor investment. If I don't feel like the school offers a reasonable rate of return then I would likely retake the Lsat in June and re apply next year. Just curious what others perception is of the cost of BU.

If you'd be happy with Boston BigLaw, then I'd say yes. Otherwise, it's debatable.

assuming one will make it into Boston biglaw then I agree. I'm taking BC sticker (with a tiny bit of parental help though).

I dunno, I think OP has it right. If you borrow sticker, you're BigLaw or bust, and that's a shaky bet at BU/BC. If you can whittle the loans down to $80-$90k (maybe a $25k-$30k a year scholly) you have more options.

You'll pay over $100k in tuition alone... add cost of living and interest and you're looking at more like $150+

Exactly! I'm anticipating around 80k in debt from BC. In this economy Biglaw isn't such a sure thing.

I agree that below T14, BigLaw is harder to get into but I think people underestimate how "cliquey" the Boston legal market is. Boston firms like Boston schools so going from BU to BigLaw (in Boston, mind you) is easier than, say, Fordham to NYC BigLaw.

In short, I certainly wouldn't call it a shakey bet as long as you'd be fine with staying in Beantown.

I was under the impression that class rank was very important for Biglaw? Assuming he hits top 20% there's not a huge problem. But what if he's median?

I don't think just going to BU is sufficient to get a rockin' Boston Biglaw job.
