Michigan vs. GULC

No money offered at either school, so far.
I have a large network of support in DC, none in AA.
I'm very interested in politics, though not sure if government/political works is immediately what I want to do upon graduation. Currently leaning toward Big Law.
I want to end up on the west coast.
Thoughts?

If you want to end up on the west coast, I see no advantage of attending GULC.
Michigan has a nicer looking campus anyway

Michigan for the reasons cited above

Georgetown so that I have a chance of getting off the waitlist at Michigan

Michigan all the way, for so many reasons. I would only consider suggesting GULC if you were POSITIVE you wanted to go D.C.-specific government work immediately after school and had no doubts about it. Even then, I don't know if GULC would have been the better choice.
Michigan has a big alumni network and will give you a degree with high portability...it also places much more on the west coast than does Georgetown. It's bred plenty of successful politicians too (even if Harold Ford Jr. is a bit of a fucker, Ken Salazar makes up for it). In general, it seems like a good choice for any applicant who knows they want a law degree but isn't 100% sure of how they will implement it, as it's a very well-rounded school which probably won't be closing any doors you'd be able to walk through with a Georgetown degree.
For an added bonus, cost of living is much lower.

You think you might want Biglaw, would probably like to end up on the West Coast, and no money is being offered at either school?
The only people voting for GULC in this thread will be those who attend GULC or Georgetown Undergrad.

I attend GULC, but I would say the OP should probably choose Michigan. That said, you can't go wrong. GULC is a great place.

I agree, and don't mean to suggest that GULC is anything but a fantastic school. I was just alluding to the idea that, with the three factors we're deciding on in the instant case, it would take some severe bias to recommend GULC over UM.

I think it is worth pointing out, a large support network can also equal serious distraction for a law student. AA is close enough to visit, but you'll be able to hunker down and work. You'll be better off doing the majority of your socializing with people in the same situation. I think Michigan is a no-brainer. Great options though, congratulations.

Thank you everyone! I'm going to consider this all .... Of course, I may come back to you if I get into either of the other two higher ranking schools I applied to (Columbia and NYU).

TITCR. I don't know how this is even a question, unless you're committed to law school in DC for some reason. If you get into Columbia or NYU, that would be even better for West Coast biglaw.
